My thoughts on the decision to have HYDRA as the villians in the Cap movie

Hello fellow CBMers! Rockerdude22 here with another article!

As many of us know, Cap will be facing Red Skull and HYDRA in his upcoming movie. When this was first confirmed, there were mixed reactions. Many fans felt upset at not having the regular Nazi soldiers as baddies (since it is during WW2 and that's who Cap faced in the comics), and others felt it didn't really matter. I myself was a little disappointed that the normal Nazi soldiers wouldn't be the main enemies, but then I thought about, and now I actually think it is a much better idea than some people think. Here are my reasons why:

1) It is a fresh take on WW2

Think about it. There have been many films over the years with Nazis as villains. Obviously, most of these were during WW2. But, a movie set during WW2 with another evil power as the main baddies? I don't think that has ever been done before. Correct me if I'm wrong. So honestly, having HYDRA as baddies in a WW2 adventure flick seems new and refreshing, and I'm looking forward to how it plays out.

2) Marketing reasons

Since this is a superhero film, kids are gonna want to see this. If they see it and like it, they will want toys and other merchandise from the film. Do any of you guys honestly think that parents will want to buy their kids action figures with swastikas on them? No, I don't think so. Plus, some people are very cautious of Nazi symbolism, so maybe just a little bit of it in the film should make everyone happy.

3) There are still Nazis in the film

Okay, this reason really doesn't state why HYDRA is a good idea for a Cap film, but I thought I should point this out. If people stay with the trend of news coming out for this film, they'll know that Nazis will still be present in the film. Plus, in the movie, HYDRA is a secret branch of the Nazi party that specializes in advanced weaponry. So technically, Cap is still fighting Nazis in the movie, but they mostly wear HYDRA uniforms. Also, if you read the First Vengeance comics, you will see that there is still Nazi symbolism bound to be in the film.

4) HYDRA are a more worthy opponent for Cap's abilities

As we all know, there will be some realism in this film. Realistically, do you think regular Nazi soldiers would be all that much of a challenge for someone like Cap? No, and it would be boring if that was how the film played out. With an enemy like HYDRA, which is much more advanced and seems more dangerous, I think it makes for a much more exciting film with some realism. HYDRA just overall seems like a better opponent for Cap to face. Realistically, of course.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on why HYDRA is actually a good idea for the Cap movie. Agree/Disagree? Leave the usual comments in the section below. Adios CMBers!

This way they can use Hydra in future movies and everyone will already know what they're all about.

like you said, the Nazis are still in it. Hydra just seems like it will be an offshoot of the Nazis.

Has anyone here read the First Vengeance MCU-canon Cap comic it kind of puts across that its more that they want to steer clear from the racist issues in regards to Nazi's master race and just have them being child friendly evil.

There is a scene in the forth issue between Erkstine and Schmidt (Red Skull) that kinda gives me this view.

only thing i will say is if in the 30-40's they made working mech suits (Zola's HYDRA soldiers) and ear sized radio transmitters (which cap has coms with H Stark) how come it takes 70 years for someone like Tony Tark to build a working one... these HYDRA ones look alot better than the ones from the court scene in IM2
