The Very First Avenger Makes His Long Awaited Debut On DVD on July 19th

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s “manufacturing on demand” (“MOD”) program is excited to announce its newest addition, CAPTAIN AMERICA, available on DVD as part of MGM’s Limited Edition Collection. Based on the bestselling Marvel Comics series, CAPTAIN AMERICA stars Matt Salinger (What Dreams May Come) as a crime-fighting superhero whose strengths and abilities may save the United States from nuclear destruction.

During World War II, a brave American soldier (Salinger) volunteers to undergo experiments to become a new super-soldier, codenamed “Captain America.” Infiltrating Germany to sabotage Nazi rockets pointed at the U.S., Captain America faces off with Nazi superhuman warrior Red Skull (Scott Paulin, The Right Stuff) who defeats the hero, throwing him into suspended animation. Frozen for 50 years, Captain America is found and revived only to find that Red Skull has changed identities and has targeted the President of the United States (Ronny Cox, RoboCop) for assassination. With America on the verge of utter chaos, it is up to one man to save the day!

CAPTAIN AMERICA also features supporting performances from Ned Beatty (Superman), Darren McGavin (A Christmas Story), Michael Nouri (Flashdance) and Melinda Dillon (Close Encounters of the Third Kind) and Kim Gillingham (“One Big Family”). The DVD will be available for sale on online retailers everywhere.

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Captain America: The First Avenger will be released in 3D on July 22, later this year!

this movie sucked on so many levels but the one thing that made it a slap in the face to fans was the fact it only showed Cap on one mission during WWII and he failed at that.

YES! Greatest movie ever! I watched the whole movie on YouTube a few months ago and I couldn't stop laughing! The only real super power Cap had in that movie was the ability to steal cars...

this movie was unwatchable.......not the least of which is Cap's inability to beat up the Red Skull in any decade. budget restrictions or no, would it have been that hard for Cap to rough up the bad guy??? especially when the Red Skull is NOT frozen and therefore like, 70 years old?? ....goes to show that small budget is no excuse for lame storytelling.

Could be worse, it could be the 1978 version with Reb Brown, who had a clear shield with red stripes, and a motorcycle helmet. Or it could be a re-release of of the serials. Talk about bad....

Now if only they'd release Corman's Fantastic Four on Blu-Ray. I have it on DVD, but a remastered DVD or even Blu-Ray would be awesome.

One of the best of the worst. By the end of the movie you want the whole cast and crew to follow Ned Beatty down the river to Deliverance.

Hilarious how they changed the color of the shield to mimic the new movie. I am buying this, but only for nostalgia. Watched it as a kid and thought it was disappointing then.

The original one was in 1944. It was a series of short films, but movies none-the-less. Anyway: I'll probably buy this for collectors reasons.

Stop bashing this, I saw it when I was like 12. It was a good attempt for the time regardless of the Italian red skull and Salingers crappy acting. I'll be buying this.
plasticman

@ Shaman- I have to agree. Who had a cooler car than Condorman? Nobody. Not even Batman.

I look to add this movie to my DVD collection as well, but I expect it to get about as much play time in the ol' disc player as Robot Jox.
