Paolo Rivera, a comic book painter best known for several issues of 'Spider-Man', recently revealed his latest work via his blogspot, for Marvel's new digital comic book series, that tie-in with the much-anticapted
Captain America: The First Avenger movie. With the the eight-part series titled 'Captain America: First Vengeance', check out the cover below. Also below, Paolo Rivera reflects back on the process of creating the piece.
"When I first painted the image, I had only as much reference as was widely available on the internet, which consisted of an Entertainment Weekly cover, concept art, and low-res pics of a stunt man on a motorcycle. In other words, I didn't know exactly what the helmet looked like, and so did the best that I could with what I had. Just prior to the cover's on-line debut—and after the helmet was revealed—my editor asked for a revision with more faithful details. But I don't think I was fast enough; it looks like the image they used in the press release was a Photoshop fix. We'll have to wait and see which version makes it to the digital comic."
The first 'Captain America: First Vengeance' issue will be available free Sunday, at CaptainAmerica.com. And written by Fred Van Lente and featuring a rotation of artists, the story is set in Marvel's "cinematic universe" and ties in with events of
Captain America: the First Avenger, which hits theaters July 22, in 3D.
