Paolo Rivera, a comic book painter best known for several issues of 'Spider-Man', recently revealed his latest work via his blogspot, for Marvel's new digital comic book series, that tie-in with the much-anticapted Captain America: The First Avenger movie. With the the eight-part series titled 'Captain America: First Vengeance', check out the cover below. Also below, Paolo Rivera reflects back on the process of creating the piece.

"When I first painted the image, I had only as much reference as was widely available on the internet, which consisted of an Entertainment Weekly cover, concept art, and low-res pics of a stunt man on a motorcycle. In other words, I didn't know exactly what the helmet looked like, and so did the best that I could with what I had. Just prior to the cover's on-line debut—and after the helmet was revealed—my editor asked for a revision with more faithful details. But I don't think I was fast enough; it looks like the image they used in the press release was a Photoshop fix. We'll have to wait and see which version makes it to the digital comic."

The first 'Captain America: First Vengeance' issue will be available free Sunday, at CaptainAmerica.com. And written by Fred Van Lente and featuring a rotation of artists, the story is set in Marvel's "cinematic universe" and ties in with events of Captain America: the First Avenger, which hits theaters July 22, in 3D.

I like it. Although I could do without the grey (useless) straps. I just watched the '90s captain America, and this is leaps and bounds better than spandex, but I will find the uniform secondary to the character's opinion and attitude to what it stands for. I want him to be all about AMERICA (like the Team America theme song). Superman Returns bailed on 'the American Way' because they had no stones, this movie needs to go all out, and have him the Captain America he needs to be.

That's such a great painting. Seriously. If I were Chris Evans, I'd be so overawed right now.

There will be plenty of pics/art with the mask and helmet. Having them off "humanizes" him. I love pics or artwork showing soldiers after the battles, helmets off, heads down thinking and praying for their fallen brothers and sisters in combat. Unbelievably cool. Wasn't sure what to expect, but everything thus far has exceeded expectations. Now bring on superbowl Sunday!! The game, Cap trailer and the digital comic tie in!!! Doesn't get any better than this!
