It's been a long time coming, but Marvel Studios finally released the first teaser trailer for The Marvels earlier today.
There's been the expected level of backlash in some corners of the internet, but the Captain Marvel sequel looks like great fun and should further expand the cosmic side of the MCU. While this teaser primarily focuses on the craziness that ensues when Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan switch places, there are still some major reveals to be found.
From the movie's villain to a couple of noteworthy debuts and a very familiar artefact, we have plenty of talking points, all of which give us a much better idea of what to expect from this unorthodox team-up.

6. S.A.B.E.R. Space Station
As far as we can tell, S.A.B.E.R. is not an organisation that originated in the comic books. However, between the shape of the base and the fact Monica Rambeau is working for them as an astronaut, this appears to be the MCU's take on S.W.O.R.D.
We've obviously already seen that group in WandaVision, but based on how things played out there, we're not exactly surprised Marvel Studios has had to come up with something new.
Likely established in the wake of Secret Invasion in order to protect the Earth from alien invaders, Nick Fury is back in charge and our planet now appears more closely linked to the wider galaxy than ever before. We even have our own jump point, linking Earth to the Universal Neural Teleportation Network seen in Guardians of the Galaxy.
5. Trading Places
In Ms. Marvel's post-credits scene, Kamala Khan appeared to transform into Captain Marvel. Many fans wondered whether this might be a precursor to introducing Ms. Marvel's shape-shifting powers from the comics, but we quickly learned they'd literally swapped places.
That's a point elaborated on in this trailer, with it confirmed that, each time these heroes use their powers, they trade locations. So, when Ms. Marvel is sent into the midst of a fight with Kree soldiers, Carol finds herself back on Earth!
This should lead to a lot of fun moments but, more importantly, confirms there's a link between these three. We knew that was the case with Captain Marvel, but Kamala's bangle is evidently Kree in nature (we'll get to that soon). While Monica seemingly gained her powers in Westview, it's likely there was something already in her that the Hex activated...
4. Reunions And Returns
We've covered Fury's return and guess this confirms he makes it out of Secret Invasion not only alive but once again back in charge of his own world-protecting organisation.
The former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director presumably established S.A.B.E.R. during the time he spent in space alongside the Skrulls, though we can't imagine he'd be hovering above Earth without some sort of agreement with the people in charge! Regardless, Fury looks set to play a key role here, as does Goose the Flerken (and it appears he won't be alone this time).
As for the trailer's biggest reunion, that happens when Carol comes face-to-face with Monica. There's obviously a history there and, likely because of Captain Marvel's extended absence from her home, neither seems best pleased to see the other.
3. Park Seo-joon
In a moment Marvel Studios must have known would send the internet into a frenzy, we see Park Seo-joon's dashing character.
Thought to be playing a character called Prince Yan in The Marvels, it's previously been reported that he's the leader of a planet where everyone has to sing to communicate (and perhaps a former flame of Carol's). That would explain the dance number we see elsewhere in the trailer and could be hilarious...or hard to watch!
For those of you wondering what the fuss is all about, Seo-joon is a South Korean actor with a massive fanbase after starring in the likes of Kill Me, Heal Me, She Was Pretty, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, Fight for My Way, and Itaewon Class. He also appeared in Parasite.
2. Captain Marvel's New Costume
It's not just Carol Danvers; all three of The Marvels' leads get new costumes during the course of this trailer. Monica is looking great in a suit clearly inspired by what her comic book counterpart wears as Spectrum, while an earlier moment in the trailer suggests she now has a firm grasp of her powers.
We're a little disappointed to see that Kamala has ditched the costume made for her by her mother, especially as it held a lot of importance to the teenager at the time. Hopefully, this "big budget" overhaul is only temporary.
The most noteworthy change, however, is Captain Marvel. Decked out in a suit that's obviously been inspired by what both the Mar-Vell and Genis Vell Captain Marvels wear on the page, it's lacking sparkles but still looks fantastic in motion.
1. A Familiar Bangle...
When we witnessed the discovery of Kamala Kang's bangle in Ms. Marvel, we saw it pulled from a blue arm. Obviously meant to be the remains of a Kree who somehow ended up on Earth, the series didn't elaborate on its origins beyond that, but we can now all but confirm it's a Kree artefact.
Zawe Ashton's villain is rumoured to be a gender-swapped version of obscure Kree villain Dar-Benn. Surrounded by the blue-skilled soldiers, she's wielding a hammer an awful lot like the one Ronan the Accuser once had!
That could be telling, but so is the fact she's wearing a bangle that's nearly identical to Ms. Marvel's. This must be the matching piece which, if combined with the other, is sure to make the wielder immensely powerful. Could that be what Dar-Benn is after? And what happens to Kamala if she ends up with both of them?
