As The Marvels' theatrical debut draws near, Marvel Studios has released two new clips from the Nia DaCosta-helmed MCU sequel.

The first is included as part of a TV spot, and features a call-back to Monica Rambeau's debut in WandaVision, with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan attempting to come up with a codename for their teammate based on her abilities. Danvers mentions "Vision," before remembering that the name is taken!

We had been led to believe that Rambeau would go by Photon in the movie, but that's since been disputed. Based on her description of her powers in this clip, Spectrum seems like a more likely possibility.

The second clip finds Ms. Marvel fan-girling out upon realizing that her idol, Captain Marvel, was in her house.

The Marvels hits theaters on November 10th, with the review embargo lifting on the 8th. Some major spoilers have already begun to do the rounds online, so if you'd rather go in completely fresh, best be wary when navigating social media.

If you want a hint about what - or who - might be lined up for one of the movie's post-credits scenes, click here (don't worry, we don't reveal anything outright).

"In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

The Marvels will begin its international rollout on November 8, and was recently granted a China release on November 10, day-and-date with North America.

It can only make sense for Photon to be a mutant, right? How is it only she whom manifested powers? I may have to go rewatch that episode of wandavision. It's been a while

I believe she went through the barrier four (?) times compared to everyone else going through once? Either way, it was really dumb how she gained her powers.

@Vigor - The recent retcon of her powers in the comics definitely alludes to her being a mutant, so I wouldn't be surprised if the MCU went that route.

This might be the 1st MCU movie I skip. Not because it's woke or whatever but the quality is more scattershot than the Infinity Saga.

Iman Vellani is great as Kamala. The way she was trying really hard to not hide her excitement about (already?) working with Carol to her family reminds me a lot to how back in Stargirl S2 Courtney couldn't either hide her joy of having a new villain, The Shade, to deal with after 6 months of no superheroing.

Can't wait for next week.

Of the last 6 films in the MCU, 5 of them have been critical and commercial successes.

NWH made 2 billion

DS2 made 930 mil

L&T made 750 mil

WF made 850 mil

Quantumania is the only one even coming close to a fail, making 500m

Guardians 3 did 870 mil

Truly; a franchise on the brink of death. They will never recover from marvels.

@Toonstrack -
• Spider-man 3 was a celebration of Sony with a majority of the profits going to Sony
• Thor 4 made less than Thor 3
• Black Panther 2 made less than Black Panther 1
• Ant-Man 3 was a box-office bomb after being advertised as the most important movie to watch due to set-up for Kang
• Guardians 3 made less than Guardians 2 and it was primarily attributed to a non-MCU movie.
• Captain Marvel 2 is going to make less than Captain Marvel despite three Disney+ shows worth of set-up and them advertising it as being a Thanos level villain

Doctor Strange 2 made a profit entirely because it was riding on the hype of NWH and extremely misleading marketing and title. The fake plot leaks put out by the studio had a team of multiversal heroes recruited by Doctor Strange fighting a giant Shuma-Gorath with Wanda sacrificing herself after realizing she summoned it.

While most of these films, other than Ant-Man 3 and Captain Marvel 2, ended up making a profit it shows a declining trend. You don't make sequels to earn in many cases significantly less than the previous installment.

You can still find aspects of the leak online, as they were reported on heavily in media so if you were online at all you likely thought Multiverse of Madness would include Tobey Maguire among other heroes.

It did originally come from a legitimate source who proved it via leaking some concept art of the Illuminati headquarters featuring a Superior Iron Man, the New York encounter with Shuma-Gorath (Later renamed Gargantos) proving they were someone who was working on concept art for the film.

Most likely it was either a scrapped plot in the early stages OR entirely done to mislead people about the plot of the film.

"Damn, that actually sounds pretty good, why didn't they go with that? lol."

No clue, best guess is that they are saving aspects of it for Secret Wars as I could easily see that line-up being saved for then.

We know they've been putting out fake leaks for movies because the actors have told us. They've done so, at minimum from Phase 3 onwards. It is a common practice by them.

The idea is to release fake leaks that they boost traction and discussion on, either hyping you for the project or distracting you from real leaks.

@Scarilian - Yes, studios have long written and even shot multiple scenes to prevent spoilers, but that doesn't mean that every "leak" is intentional, or even factual. This is the internet. People make shit up for clicks every day.

Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 11/2/2023, 1:41 PM
@Scarilian - yes you do. Most sequels in fact make less than their predecessor. The original trilogy of star wars and the new one follow this.

Also, considering the pandemic; BP losing its lead, and various other factors guardians and then did quite well. Thor 4 also didn't have China BO after their government nuked the box office for any western film.

Agreed, this one came with a level of proof though. Also, it's not uncommon now for huge leaks from Marvel. The plot for Captain Marvel 2 for example leaked around January this year and made the rounds again recently for the updated post-credit scene.

@IronMan616 -
Yeah, original leaks had a Superior Iron Man that was apparently going to be played by Tom Cruise. They've denied this repeatedly, but the movie notably features the Ultron drones that the original leak remarked on and the rest of the Illuminati was identical.

@Toonstrack -
They spent more to make less, regardless of the reasoning that's not a sustainable business model for investors.

@Scarilian - everyone spent more to make less during the pandemic. Thats kinda what happens with worldwide catastrophic events play out.
.but the reality is line em up next to anyone else snd it becomes clear they arent hurting amnesty as much. In fact they are doing pretty well between this and avatar, they are sitting pretty
Scarilian
Scarilian - 11/2/2023, 6:14 PM
@Toonstrack -

I mean spending more in a general sense, costs are higher than they were pre-pandemic and even ignoring that studios were getting cocky and giving films insane budgets thinking every film would generate close to $1bn.

"it becomes clear they arent hurting as much"

Perhaps, but they are stretched thin and they are losing money on everything.

The films are not getting enough of an audience. The theme parks have had a decreased attendance. Things like Star Wars and Marvel which were a lot part of the merchandising have declined in popularity. Add to this the legal battles they face because they got involved with politics.

"In fact they are doing pretty well between this and avatar, they are sitting pretty"

As much as Avatar earns, the sequel showed a decline of $600m despite a larger budget and Avatar 3 (late 2025/2026) won't be enough to keep Disney profitable given they are bleeding money. Avatar 4 won't really help either as it won't release until 2029.

Late 2024/2025 is going to become a drought for Disney, a majority of their planned projects are screwed because of the writers and actors strike. We're looking at tons of delays that are going to be announced fairly soon.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 11/2/2023, 7:48 PM
@Scarilian - delays are fine.

The rest is you just denying any money. Avatar disappointed? Lmfao ok.

Half of that budget wss spent developing technology that will be used on the next movie and they already shot most of it as well.

They will be fine. They are sitting pretty. Sitting way better than everyone else at least.

I'm not comparing with anything else here.

Disney streaming losses since 2019 have equated to $11 billion.

Film losses since 2022 have equated to around $2 billion loss.

The theme parks are also losing them money

Disney is not doing well.

@Scarilian - everyone's lost money since 2019. Disney is still doing better than everyone else. You keep ignoring that bit.

Avatar alone made 2 billion dollars. Thats without the 3 successful mcu flicks. Amounting to another 3 bil.

They'll be fine.

The Marvels looks like it should be on Disney Plus and not released at the cinema.

It features two characters that if you haven't seen the Disney Plus shows you won't know who they are.

Can't wait for the reviews and how much this movie doesn't make.
