On the heels of a new international poster, Marvel Studios has debuted a Chinese TV spot for The Marvels (or, Captain Marvel 2 as it'll be known in the region), and it features a few snippets of new footage.

The teaser begins by taking us back to the events of Carol Danvers' first solo adventure, and her brief appearances in Avengers: Endgame, where she proved to be an integral factor in the final battle with Thanos and his forces.

Going one-on-one with the Mad Titan certainly gave us some indication of just how powerful Captain Marvel can be, but she's going to find herself up against another formidable villain in the upcoming sequel - and this one has a personal score to settle with the cosmic hero.

Good thing Danvers will have some backup in the form of Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, who are also given some time to shine in the promo.

In a recent interview, director Nia DaCosta admitted to having some reservations about signing on for the movie, and reached out to previous MCU filmmakers to ask their advice.

“Are they going to kill me and destroy my soul? Is Kevin Feige a bad man?” she joked. “And they were like, ‘No, he’s just a good guy who was a nerd.'"

"Sometimes you’d be in a scene and you’d be like, ‘What the hell does any of this shit mean?’ Or an actor’s looking at some crazy thing happening in space, and they’re [actually] looking at a blue X. There were obviously hard days, and days where you’re like, ‘This just isn’t working.’”

"In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The film also stars Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

Of course they're reminding us how powerful she can be. Power is literally all this character has going for her.

The power of being a sexless void with some superpowers. Awesome.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - You know, often times in movies, especially since the quarter of the 20th century, women have been depicted as having some value beyond their sexual attractiveness to men. It's really quite the thing. You've come a long way baby, etc.

URCOMMENTSUCKS - 9/28/2023, 12:06 PM
@ClintThaHamster - Carol Danvers is supposed to be sexy, dipshit. It's written in her character's DNA. The same way Catwoman or Power Girl have to be sexy by default. She also has to be an interesting character with actual human flaws (such as alcoholism). Captain Karen is neither. Your whiteknighting attempt failed. Move on.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - You do know that there's just, like, straight up porn on the internet now, yeah? Like, you don't have to get your boner from big budget family blockbusters anymore, you can just type "porn" into google and a whole world of sexy ladies will reveal itself. Give it a try!

@ClintThaHamster - You do know that sexual appeal of fictional characters isn't the same as pornography? Saying that a sexy superheroine shouldn't be sexy because there's porn is like saying that male actors don't need to bulk up to play superheroes because there are bodybuilding competitions people can watch instead. Also, these ''big budget family blockbusters'' had no trouble stripping plenty of its male characters butt ass naked, so not sure how a woman in a swimsuit would suddenly change how they are ''family friendly''.

Try making a reasonable argument without projecting random bullshit, give it a try.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - A reasonable argument? Okay, lemme give this a shot: often times in movies, especially since the last quarter of the 20th century, women have been depicted as having some value beyond their sexual attractiveness to men.

And then I'll add another point: How practical would it be, exactly, for a space-faring war fighter to be dressed in a tank swimsuit with a sash tied around her waist? What purpose could such a costume have for the story, other than titillation for the male gaze?

"these ''big budget family blockbusters'' had no trouble stripping plenty of its male characters butt ass naked"

It's happened once, right? In Love and Thunder? And everyone hated it?

@ClintThaHamster - ''A reasonable argument? Okay, lemme give this a shot: often times in movies, especially since the last quarter of the 20th century, women have been depicted as having some value beyond their sexual attractiveness to men.''

First, that's not what I was arguing about. Stop being a strawman. The character in the comics is meant to be sexy. The end. Second, actually, in the 21th century, men are more sexually exploited in popular media than women.

''And then I'll add another point: How practical would it be, exactly, for a space-faring war fighter to be dressed in a tank swimsuit''

The same way it's practical for everyone in the MCU, from whatever planet they come from, to speak in perfect modern English. It's called fantasy. Also, Carol is supposed to have an indestructible skin. So yeah, not like wearing pants is gonna give her any more durability.

''What purpose could such a costume have for the story''

Since when does the MCU value story over style, dipshit?

''other than titillation for the male gaze?''

Ms. Marvel was created for the male gaze, deal with it.

''It's happened once, right?''

No, it happened multiple times. In The Incredible Hulk we saw Ed Norton's naked body in the shower. In Thor 1 we saw Kat Dening's gushing over his abs. In the first Avengers Bruce Banner was butt naked (again) after he fell into that old building. In Thor Ragnajoke we saw Hulk naked (again). In Loki S1 we saw Loki stripped nude. Then we also had that stupid ''America's ass'' joke in Endgame and She-Hulk. Yeah, the MCU is definitely not fighting the male gaze the way it's morally right would be to do.

''In Love and Thunder? And everyone hated it?''

Everyone hated Love and Thunder.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - So your argument comes down to "Carol should be sexy because Carol is supposed to be sexy?"

Great to see them highlight her powers. I have mixed feelings about it because if the villain of the Marvels is not seen as being as formidable as Thanos it could make the movie seem like a step down. Looking forward to seeing it despite.
Urubrodi
Urubrodi - 9/28/2023, 8:30 AM
@Forthas - Agree, I feel like they needed someone like Korvac as the villain, instead of female Ronan.
Forthas
Forthas - 9/28/2023, 8:42 AM
@Urubrodi - But if they used Korvac then would it make sense to not have an Avengers level response. I am not sure what the best way to approach it....OR it could have been an opportunity to elevate other cosmic franchises like the Eternals. So have Korvac be the villain and have her team with the Eternals to stop him. The great thing about a shared universe is that there are many ways to go.

This director has made several comments about how seemingly out of her element she was during filming. I wonder if she’s trying to cushion the blow once the movie receives bad reviews.

@mountainman - I can guarantee you this won't make a billion. today MCU is just lacking that charisma they once had and i can tell it by the lack of general audience around me talking about this movie let alone the MCU itself. compare that in year 2017-2019 almost everyone i knew they wanna know all about these movies. it's really sad honestly
