CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 To Alter Marvel Universe Again; Russos Say Title Has Been Planned For Years
Promising a "big, big idea" similar to the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra, Captain America 3 co-directors tease that the official (sub)title has been in place for years, and more. Check it out after the jump!

In anticipation of The Winter Soldier home release, co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo offered up more Captain America 3 teasing during their interview with Crave Online. After promising an announcement very soon, the dynamic duo teased that the official title, or a major event in the threequel that will be reflected by the title, has been planned for years at Marvel Studios. "If you’ve been talking to Kevin [Feige, President of Marvel Studios] the title has been in place probably for ten years in his brain," said Joe Russo. "It’s all part of the road map that he’s laid out, and it’s all part of the bigger plan." Asked if they were building towards Captain America 3 in The Winter Soldier, Joe explained, "Yeah, I think the way Kevin does it is there are big pieces that he knows he wants to build towards, but the way that you get there is open to interpretation and improv a little bit." He continued, "That’s defined by who gets involved with the project, the writers and directors involved in the project. The big thing we knew we had to deal with in Captain America 2 was the fall of Hydra. Similarly there is a very, very big idea at the center of Captain America 3. But how we get there is all up to us. And I think why Marvel has been so successful is because it’s been such a clear plan, that everything is interconnected and they’re building emotional capital with each movie that you can then trade off of in the next film."
When asked if the Captain America 3 villain, main supporting characters, or Cap emotional journey have also been in place for years, Joe reassured, "No, all that stuff is open for interpretation. Usually it’s just one big idea that alters the universe as a whole in some way, that has interconnectedness that he’s grabbed on to. That’s the case with Cap 3, but as far as villain and story arc and tone, all that stuff is left up to us." Later during the interview, the Russo brothers said they were "estatic" about the most recent Captain America 3 draft submitted by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The directing duo also remained tight-lipped about "rumblings" that Jeremy Renner will reprise his Avengers: Age of Ultron role as Hawkeye, but promised more Falcon action, among other things. Check out the full interview over Crave Online.
Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, and Frank Grillo (so far), Captain America 3 is directed by the Russos, and currently scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.

It's difficult to imagine anyone other than Sebastian Stan playing the Winter Soldier in the MCU. But during his first turn as Bucky Barnes, Stan feared his time as the character was a one-and-done thing.
