THE MARVELS Set Photos Feature A First Look At Iman Vellani In Her Updated Ms. Marvel Costume

Though we're still waiting on an official announcement, recent Instagram posts from some crew members who worked on The Marvels appeared to confirm that principal photography has now wrapped on Nia DaCosta's MCU sequel, and some new photos from the set have now found their way online.

These snaps give us a first glimpse of Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan in her updated Ms. Marvel costume. As you'll see from the first photo, her outfit isn't a million miles away from the one she'll don in her solo Disney+ series, but there are a few notable differences. The red color scheme is more prominent, for one, and some logos have been added to the arms.

The photos also feature other actors/extras in full costume (one of them is definitely a Kree), and a look at the interior of a set. We're not sure which location this is supposed to be, but there's a good chance it's an alien planet.

Plot details for the Captain Marvel sequel are still under wraps (you can check out a vague logline here), but we do know that WandaVision's Teyonah Parris will reprise the role of Monica Rambeau, and British actress Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Velvet Buzzsaw) is on board as the main villain, who is rumored to be a gender-swapped take on Kree warrior Ael-Dan. Of course, Brie Larson will also return as Carol Danvers.

In addition, Samuel L. Jackson recently confirmed that he will appear as Nick Fury.

DaCosta will direct from a script by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell. The Marvels is set to fly into theaters on February 17, 2023.

Hopefully it looks better when the show is actually out

@Kurban -

I think Marvel have always shown a big upgrade between set photos to the movie, so I have faith it'll look better.

So now that filming is done we're getting set photos? Okay

Anyway, I like the one from the show better from what we've seen

Maybe it's Covid altering the process or maybe it's just me not paying close attention anymore, but I feel like I've gotten out of sync with the MCU production schedule. It feels like it's simultaneously moving so fast and also so slow.

...Or maybe I'm just getting old and this is what old feels like.

I hope these new Marvels add a lot to this because Captain Marvel was by far my least favourite MCU film. Ben Mendohlson almost elevated it but it was just so damn bland and predictable.

Costume isn't that bad but whatever hype I had for this show evaporated after I heard she isn't an Inhuman with elasticity. These energy gauntlets are so lame, does she even have any real superpowers?

@Archgoat - Inhumans is one of Marvel comics worst handled properties. Objectively they are terribly unlikable, and at best, a clichéd and inferior copy of the X-Men.

This change is an upgrade, in my eyes.

Which version of Ms Marvel did Rogue put in a coma and steal the powers of, Carol Danvers right? Brie Larson's version?

@ScRipt69 - That is correct. Carol Danvers.

@ScRipt69 - Yup a classic, she also had a classic Jim Lee cover of Rogue Vs Zombie version of Ms.Marvel.

Ngl, Hamfisto's introduction to comics came after my reading days were mostly over and I'm not too familiar with her. So, if they butcher her, I'm not likely to care.

I will say, I do prefer her look they've given for the show much more than this though.

Kamala getting her powers from a Jinn is actually pretty damn unique and very culturally relevant considering the Jinn is a prominent element of Islamic folklore. I much prefer it to just a copy-paste of Reed richards.

I don't like neither the show costume nor the movie costume. Marvel needed to simplify it. It's got way too much going on.

The show's costume is light years better than this crap for the movie!!! That costume is a slight variation of the comics and it looks good, all this added colors/lines/shoulder pads/etc. is horrible!! I REALLY hope this movie turns out good b/c I really want to see Monica become an awesome hero, but I have a feeling it is going to lean HARD in the feminism/woman power stuff(which I support when done right) at the expense of a strong story and a good movie.
