Christopher Nolan Comments On DC's Recently Announced Film Slate

We heard from the Interstellar director earlier on, and now in another excerpt from that interview with Time Out, Chris Nolan makes mention of the massive slate of movies announced by WB/DC last week. Does he feel things have reached saturation point? Click on to find out..

I'm sure you remember those rumors doing the rounds that claimed Warner Bros. desperately wanted Christopher Nolan to stay on after his Dark Knight trilogy wrapped and work on their new batch of shared universe DC movies. Well, it seems that was indeed the case, and because he refused (his producing role on Man Of Steel aside) the studio had to reshuffle and go in a different direction. This is apparently why they took so long to make their announcement of a shared DC movie universe to rival Marvel's. But as we found out earlier, Nolan doesn't have any negative feeling for the genre, and might even entertain the idea of returning some day...but how does he feel about the current approach that's been taken in his absence? Here's what he had to say to Time Out about it.

"I love working in that field and hopefully I’ve added something to it. I know to some extent we encouraged more of it. You don’t want Hollywood to hit saturation point with those things. But then Zack Snyder is now doing his part by bringing Batman and Superman into one film [for 2016's Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice], so that limits the number! But yes DC Comics have just announced an enormous number of movies. Well, you know, as long as that’s the ride people want, the studios will continue to offer it. I don’t see it as a limited genre. If I did, I never would have worked for almost ten years in that genre. I think like any genre, like the Western, it has limitless opportunities. It’s just about the audience’s appetite. What’s very important is that the studios be open to making other sorts of films at the same time."

Do you agree with his assessment of the current superhero movie climate? There's much more to the interview so be sure to have a read at the link below.

I see Nolan isn't being overly modest, glad he admitted he contributed to the genre.

Zack was definitely the right choice to follow Nolan; hope WB chooses more talented men and women from the business for their DC material

Doops, though I don't totally agree with the Westerns comparison because comic book (movies) usually originate in childhood, it's so much of the pop culture now-a-days...the Westerns lost that in the 50-60s with kids wanting to be cowboys, etc...the Superheros have much more appeal to the masses imo...Westerns are a specific genre, while CBMs (as Marvel has shown us) can spread across the different genres, though still within the CBM umbrella...

...but do appreciate the warning :) If it needs to be deleted, so be it, but adding some humor to the comments while still adding relevant and related comments to the thread should be tolerable (within reason)...

Oh, I just posted this in the David Warner (Freddy Krueger) article, he's voiced Ra's al Ghul in many animated shows...but both him and Bats aren't wearing shirts, does that count? haha

yeah, you're right there...guess can't really put any movies totally in the genre boxes, but think CBMs have a lot more variety and things for different people...but right, the bubble will burst eventually, it always does, hope we get tons of great movies between then and now...yeah, love that David Warner, posted some of his my fav movies he's in on that article...

Thank you Christopher Nolan for not only bring Batman back from the grave, but make everyone believe their are more interesting things about superheros than just saving the world. WB/DC we'll gladly bring you back when you're ready.

Batman has been around for 75 YEARS!!!! If only one comic book character can survive that long, imagine how many others have survived for long periods of time. What I'm trying to say is comic book movies will be around for a long time because of the rich history of comic books and the variety of their many different stories and characters.
