First announced in May of 2009, Grant Morrison's Multiverse spanning superhero epic "Multiversity" has finally been given an official release date. The limited series will launch in August of this year, with the first issue focusing on the Superman of Earth-23, Calvin Ellis, with art by Ivan Reis of Green Lantern, and Aquaman fame.

Check out the image below, and what Morrison has to say about the series.

"'The Multiversity' has been a labor of love almost eight years in the making, and brings together an unstoppable supergroup of artists -- Reis, Sprouse, Oliver, Quitely, Stewart and more -- with a cast of unforgettable characters from the 52 alternative Earths of the known DC Multiverse!

"Prepare to meet the Vampire Justice League of Earth-43, the Justice Riders of Earth-18, Superdemon, Doc Fate, the super-sons of Superman and Batman, the rampaging Retaliators of Earth-8, the Atomic Knights of Justice, Dino-Cop, Sister Miracle, Lady Quark, the legion of Sivanas, the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10 and the LATEST, greatest superhero of Earth-Prime -- YOU!

Comprising seven complete adventures -- each set in a different parallel universe -- a two part framing story, and comprehensive guidebook to the many worlds of the Multiverse, 'The Multiversity' is more than just a multi-part comic book series, it's a cosmos-spanning, soul-shaking experience that puts YOU on the front line in the Battle For All Creation against the demonic destroyers known as the Gentry!

But beware! Power has a cost, and at the heart of this epic tale waits the cursed and malignant comic book called 'Ultra Comics'...

How safe is YOUR head?

Join us, if you dare, for 'The Multiversity!'" -- Grant Morrison

Well this could be great. I wonder if you will see fan favorite characters from the Multiverse end up becoming apart of the main DC Universe. After getting more time in front of comic book fans reading the Multiversity. Powergirl is from Earth-Two and now she's part of the main one. So it would be cool to see more new characters being in the main universe.

What does he mean by "Known DC Multiverse? Will there be more than 52 universes, Post-Flashpoint?
Sounds like he might've cursed Ultra comics? Careful how you read that one. Probably got a demon or two in it. FREE INSIDE!! a demon. boo.
I hope he canonises a few cross-media earths, such as the fan favorite Earth 16 (Young Justice) and maybe the DCAU and the DCCU and the new TV universe that started with Arrow. If I were DC, I'd want to have some kind've relativity between all front line platforms. And I'm sure that longtime DC fans will appreciate it, too. It would be good for our brains.

What the [frick]? That blurb doesn't really make sense to me. "Ultra Comics"?? Don't know if I trust Morrison enough to go into this blindly.
