COMICS: First Look At Mark Millar And Frank Quitely's JUPITER'S LEGACY #3

This series is gonna go down as the best thing Millar's ever done. It's really innovative like Wanted was, but not gratuitously violent like that book and Kick-Ass. Loving it so far. Let's just hope he doesn't try to milk it with movies and sequels.

Quitely's art is unique. Some people are going to have a problem with that.

Competent is about the highest praise it can receive without being over the top.

Wrong.

You clearly don't understand what a competent artist is. To do that you must understand what 'competent' itself means, so lets start with that.

Being a competent artist has nothing to do with receiving the highest praise, many competent artists never receive any at all. Anyone who knows Art History understands that many of the artists that are now considered 'masters' never received and praise or recognition throughout their entire lives. Praise is not what makes a competent artist. Before I get to what does...let me just state that Quitely already HAS received the highest praises for an artist working in comic books.

Quitely already has received the highest praise when he won 2005: Won "Best Penciller/Inker" Eisner Award, Won "Best Artist" Harvey Award in 2007 and 2008, and was nominated NUMEROUS times for both Harvey and Eisner awards. I think that counts, don't you?

Now when I say he is a competent artist, that means he understand perspective, anatomy, design composition and layout. The fundamentals of visually structuring a comic book in a successful manner. He does, this is a fact.

There are a lot of artists who don't or are 'okay', and there are a lot of artists who do but never rise to the level of fame as others. This has to do with what you seem to confuse with competence.

PERSONAL STYLE.

What you are talking about has NOTHING to do with being a competent artist because you are talking about a more superficial aspect of the art itself.

You not liking his personal style is subjective and has nothing to do with whether or not he is a competent artist. I didn't like his style at first either but that doesn't negate the fact that he knows what he is doing when it comes to the illustrations themselves. I now however love his work, but I still find is style a little bit much at times in some areas.

Fangz...it is a tragic, incredible, and bloody powerful issue.

You should get it. It's the best issue in my mind so far, but that's because the previous two were leading towards this inevitable event.
