COMICS: First Look At Mark Waid And Andre Araujo's AGE OF ULTRON #10A.I.

So yeah, it now seems fair to say that Age of Ultron was a pretty major disappointment. Billed as an epic post apocalyptic battle between The Avengers and Ultron, we instead got a Wolverine/Sue Storm team-up. Well, thank goodness for an epilogue written by Daredevil scribe Mark Waid!

Just got done rereading Waid's Kingdom Come. My God, I forget how amazing that arc is. So many iconic moments. Issue #5, the "One Year Later", is my overall favorite comic of all time. I love Bruce's snarky little comments.

Clark and Diana: We have an announcement.

Bruce: You're Pregnant.

Clark and Diana: *shocked* How'd ya' know?

Bruce: Observation. For an ageless Amazon with a perfect physique, you've put on a pound or two... THAT, was my first clue.

Diana: *Pissed* Always the detective... I want a commitment from you. I'd like you to be the Godfather.

Bruce: *Oh shit face*

Haha, man, Waid and Ross kicked major ass on that story.

Lol the Wolverine fan thinks Marvel isn't catering to him enough. Go read Spawn.

Pym is just so damned interesting as a character. They need to get him in the MCU films now.

I love marvel. This however, THE MOST CONVOLUTED CRAPTASTIC ANTI-CLIMACTIC POORLY EXECUTED SERIES EVER!!! I want my money back. What happened to caps team that wet in the future, what happened to black widow, what's going on with tony's defenders and morgan le fey? WHY DID THEY INCLUDE ANY OF THAT!!!?! For shame marvel, for shame

yea it was very anticlimatic and i actually yelled out "THATS how they decide to bring angela in?!?!"

I'm pissed that this fool decides to build Ultron again because "he thinks he knows how to correct his mistake".

The exact reason why Wolvie went to the past to kill him a couple issues back.

I did like how Ultimate and 616 were both being effected by this.

sicknimon - 6/21/2013, 6:16 AM
@TelaVizion: that is an issue of the series I enjoyed; where Wolvie and Susan went in to the past. Then Wolvie went back to the past to stop Wolvie from killing Pym and killed Wolvie to fix the paradox, somehow switching costumes (who knows where he got that costume from. Awesome costumes don't make up for poor writing). Then when Tony, Beast, and Pym are sitting around trying to figure it all out all they say is "oh well I guess he broke the timestream".... ok, so is it still broken? Did it repair itself? UGH, so many question!

Wow, Marvel's new big event is a let down? Shocking. Instead of focusing on these convoluted, anti-climactic, continuity destroying and forced character developing (and main character needlessly killing) events Marvel should sit down with their editorial team and focus on their invidivual works, making Marvel the best company in comics AGAIN!

yeah I can't disagree, but it wasn't long ago that Annihilation - Annihilators came out (and everything in between). Also Daredevil End of Days was fantastic. Marvel has still got it, this was just not a good example.

@sicknimon: yeah, it's still broken...

-Hunger will deal with Galactus trying to eat Ultimate Earth.

-Guardians OTG will deal with all the Angela stuff.

-Avengers AI will have Hank trying to finally sort himself out and fulfil his potential. No more sidelines.

-All New XMen will have fallout from Wolverine's part in AoU, as well as the fact that the main characters are all time displaced.

-Fantastic Four will deal with Sue Storm's experiences

-Superior Spiderman will have Spiderman 2099 pop in, no doubt due to a time/space disruption

-Plus there's the upcoming XMen crossover "Battle of the Atom" with a FUTURE XMen coming to the present and messing with stuff.

A lot, lot, LOT of story arcs will be dipped in AoU, no doubt about it.

I for one thought it was just a typical "change the past to save the world" story. The Defenders alt-universe was pretty awesome, and seeing Moon Knight was a treat. And i like how it dovetailed into the Avengers story from a couple of years ago. Hitch FTW :)

I told you all how much Bendis sucks. He so bad you never really get to see who the comic is named after. His 10 year run in the 616 universe has been a joke. This guy is Marvel's Antichrist!

He is worse than a soap opera writer

@xcrementus: for sure. I did enjoy the Defenders, seemed it cut short to soon. Also really enjoyed the first 5 books of age of ultron. I really wanted to see what was up with Cap and his team going in to the future. Also, really looking forward to Battle of the Atom.

I'm glad Marvel has Mark Waid to fix some of their garbage. AoU was a major disappointment couple that with what they're doing to Spider-Man and Marvel is effing up with some of their titles. But I'm looking forward to Waid's Spider-Man: Family Business & his work on Daredevil is great.

I think Bendis does and has done a great job in the Ultimate Universe with Spidey. But yeah he just doesn't work for me in the 616 Universe. I mean New Avengers was hit & miss for me, and I got tired of it when he simply kept recycling storylines.
xcrementus
xcrementus - 6/21/2013, 7:30 AM
I'm pretty sure Cap's future team all died, didn't they show that on page? i think most people just assumed they weren't "dead".

PS Bendis turned Avengers into a franchise juggernaught. His influence is undeniable.

I agree that he's not a perfect writer, sometimes goes overboard with the dialogue, voices sometimes seem off..but when he's on, he is ON. 1st volume of New Avengers, Dark Avengers, Daredevil, Ult Spiderman, The Pulse, Alias, the man knows his stuff.

My guess is, 10 years of Avengers just burned him out, sometimes people just get sick of their same routine. His XMen has been amazing so far tho.

I had 0 interest in reading more Age of Ultron related stuff until I saw that this was written by Mark Waid, the man who wrote my favorite Superman story (Birthright). Might give it a shot now.

sicknimon - 6/21/2013, 8:32 AM
I must have missed the page where they died, I really don't remember it. Also I agree with the routine. He did turn Avengers in to a juggernaught:-) However, I didn't like how they just brought back Starlord and Thanos from the Cancerverse, at least from my memory there was no rhyme or reason to how they got back. I'm excited that Uncanny X-Men is getting in to more of the Majik and Dormammu (probably incorrect spelling) story. I've always loved the Limbo dimension story lines. Infinity better be good. AND FOR GOD SAKES BRING BACK DICK RIDER!!!!!! NOVA PRIME FOREVER!!!

like they used to....when exactly?

This week alone, Marvel released:

Hickman's Avengers & New Avengers
Cable & XForce
Captain Marvel
Fantastic Four
Indestructible hulk
Superior Spiderman
Uncanny Avengers

all of those issues were above average to great. And that's just one week.
Well written, well drawn, great storylines (yes, even Superior Spiderman, which has been really fun since it started).

Only disappointments were XFactor (which is usually one of the best comics every month), and Thunderbolts (not really a disappointment, i'm used to it sucking because Daniel Way is a clumsy writer.)

How Way can make a cast like he has in Thunderbolts, and make it a chore to read, is beyond me.
xcrementus
xcrementus - 6/21/2013, 8:39 AM
Oh apparently Bendis said the Starlord resurrection will be dealt with down the track, he just wanted to hit the ground running for the first little while.
And did you see them sneak in the image of Richard Rider Nova in AoU's universe montage? He's totally gonna be back at some point haha.

sicknimon - 6/21/2013, 8:56 AM
I did see that, it was the one thing that made me very excited. Superior Spiderman is an awesome read. People just need to go with the flow. It's so much fun reading Doc Oc as Spiderman. Peter will be back eventually. Who knows when and how, until then THE DIE IS CAST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Waid is one of the best writers in comic books, period. Kingdom Come was amazing. I also liked his Fantasic Four and even his Daredevil stuff, as weird as it was at times, was good.

Even so I cant bother to read anymore of the Ultron crap. I was sooo happy to have a big Marvel story NOT be about hero vs. hero and, guess, what, it pretty much turned into that when Wolverine went after Pym. Bleh.

Love that Rivera cover!

Shadowelfz: I agree about Waid's greatness as a writer. You ever read Waid and Garney's run on Captain America before the whole "heroes reborn" fiasco? Best run on Cap I ever read outside of Brubaker. They came back to the book later on but it wasn't the same.

I think Bendis's characterizations are top-notch, but that his plotting could use a little work. He worked a lot better without the confines of continuity, though I think All-New X-men has been done well. This has been just alright.

Avengers A.I. is the only thing that interested me about AoU anymore.

Dialogue in that last issue of AoU was just really awkward. I could not suspend my belief that that dialogue was actually coming out of Ultron's mouth. And when was the last time anyone said "zinger"?
