COMICS: Jason Aaron's WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN To End With February's Issue #42

Wolverine and the X-Men is currently Marvel's highest numbered title, so it should come as no surprise to learn that it's set to be cancelled with issue #42. While it's unknown whether it will receive an "All-New Marvel NOW!" relaunch, writer Jason Aaron has confirmed it will be the end of his run.

"As seen in the Marvel solicits for February, issue #42 will be the end of my run on WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN. The original plan was for me to write both WatXM and AMAZING X-MEN as sister titles. One dealing with the school, the other with the X-Men from that school going on adventures out in the world. But unfortunately my schedule just didn't allow that. So I've been writing the post-Battle of the Atom arc of WatXM as my goodbye to that series and to the Jean Grey School. Believe me, it wasn't easy for me to step away from this book. I've loved building that school and writing those characters, both the students and the teachers, as much as I've loved anything I've done in comics. But the school itself isn't going anywhere. And I'll still be writing a lot of those same characters over in AMAZING. And I've got lots of other stuff coming up that demanded my time, like THOR and SOUTHERN BASTARDS and some new things I can't tell you about just yet. So I'll save all my tearful goodbyes until we get to the end, but for now, just let me say THANK YOU once again to everybody who's bought this book along the way. Thank you for embracing such an offbeat X-series. 42 issues of Bamfs and Doop and sentient lawns? I love you all for helping make that happen."

SCHOOL'S OUT FOREVER! FINAL ISSUES!
• It's the end of the year for the Jean Grey school – but where do our graduates go from here? And who will have survived the experience?!
• Jason Aaron, Pepe Larraz & Nick Bradshaw bring the story of the Jean Grey school to a close!

Great way to ruin my day marvel, this was one of the only good comics you produced and now you're canceling it... i really have lost my faith in you marvel. the first straw was cancelling your 'good' animated series, now your pretty much relaunching everything for no reason! Sickening...

If a title reaches 50, it means some 17 year old intern in the marketing department didn't keep his boss (a 23 year old marketing associate) appraised of the situation. Everyone at Marvel-marketing should know by now, "Our mantra is, 'If it's 30, it's dirty. Clean it up, and give it a shiny new number one!' "

Makes sense considering it seems he'll be leaving the school. You gotta change the name after that.

Why not cancel the book every month and save time. That way each month you can say "The All New..."

To keep track you can number them 1.0, 1.1, 1.2...... 1.300.

See, that was easy!

2 things:

1. This was one of the best X-Men books I have read since Astonishing XMen. Jason Aaron did an amazing job, and he should be proud.

2. Nowhere did it say its getting relaunched with a #1. Jason Aaron decided to call quits on the book, and they chose not to continue it without him, hence the new pseudo-villainous direction in his own solo book. I don't doubt that a school-based young mutant book will take its place, but without Wolverine as the lead.

Marvel is making some amazing books atm. This one I will really miss.

Fox killed Scott and in the comics he is switching roles with Wolverine, Marvel trying to make this less popular cause they want the rigts back, just a conspiracy theory cause I had nothing to say.
