COMICS: Marvel's SXSW Announcements Include 700 FREE Digital #1 Issues For Readers

No, they're not rebooting the Marvel Universe! They are however offering readers the opportunity to download 700 #1 issues from the Marvel App for absolutely nothing. Other announcements include a weekly Infinite Comics series, "Project Gamma" and more!

It's not a con. There are no hidden charges. No one asking for your credit card details. Marvel really are offering 700 digital comics away for FREE on their online stores! You only have until Tuesday 12th March to do so, but that should be more than enough time to get your hands on plenty of free #1 comics (it's not just old comics either; all the "Marvel NOW!" series' are included too).

Other announcements at the event included a weekly Infinite Comics series which will launch this July. The first will be Wolverine: Japan’s Most Wanted from the creative team of Jason Latour, Jason Aaron and Paco Diaz. The mysterious "Project Gamma" is a clever audio adaptive project which will provide readers with musical scores for their digital comics, including personalised scores for different characters as you move from panel to panel. Finally, Marvel will be expanding their online influence with Earth's Mightiest Show; a behind-the-scenes web series hosted by Blair Butler. Below are trailers and various other teaser images for these new initiatives.

They are trying to conform a new audience to reading digital comics, which is an extremely smart idea. You don't lose anything but your expand your audience

Just downloaded a ton of comics. Got the chance to read FF and Fantastic Four which I absolutely loved. X-Men: Legacy I also enjoyed, and I have been meaning to read the Ultimate comics and this has helped me out. Couldn't be happier, Marvel made a smart move.

this was a brilliant move by Marvel. they'll gain a lot of digital readers with this, and get people hooked on new titles.
