The Human Rocket returns! You’ve followed him through the history making (and changing!) AvX and now the mystery of the all-new Nova are revealed in this breathtaking new ongoing by the best-selling, award winning team of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness (RED HULK, Avengers X-Sanction). Sam Alexander is a kid bound by the gravity of a small town and a father whose ridiculous, drunken fairy tales about a “Nova Corps” were just another heavy burden in a life full of them. But luckily for Sam Alexander...soon gravity won’t even matter. And those troubles? It’s like they’re a billion miles away.

What's with middle aged men wanting to write stories about small-town high school students who get powers? The whole "teenager-self-discovery-puberty metaphor" deal is old.

So essentially they're changing the character to the one from the Ultimate Spider-Man show...

@PantherX

Hack writer? I'm sorry, but I love Loeb's writing. Batman: Haunted Knight, Long Halloween, and Dark Victory, Batman: Hush, and Spider-Man: Blue are some of my favorite stories in comics. All of them were written by Loeb. I have heard both good and bad things about his Red Hulk run, but everyone is entitled to a rough patch once in awhile. Even so, I highly doubt that gives him the status of a "hack writer".

Definitely gonna check this out. One of my favorite writers, and I have loved Nova's character on Ultimate Spider-Man (hate on that statement if you want, for what it is the show's actually entertaining). This will be the first comic from Marvel that I have read in quite some time. I was an avid Spider-Man fan when I was younger. Got tired of the comics direction, came back in for "The Gauntlet" and "Shed" story lines, dropped back out after "The Grim Hunt". I want to get the AvX series and will definitely pick up Nova #1 and Uncanny X-Men #1. Marvel, I am giving you another shot with these titles. Please do not ruin them like you have Spider-Man with this Superior Spider-Man shite.

Leob at one time was a great writer but he fell off HARD. This is the man responsible for Red Hulk, Ultimatum(read the reviews on Amazon for further proof), and a not so good prologue to AvX called Avengers: X-Sanction.

Then when on saw the reviews on the issues he did on Wolverine were poor. Sooooo I'll wait for the reviews(and SOME of y'all) to see how this turns out.lol

Loeb and McGuinness NAILED the Superman/Batman Public Enemies series. Pretty much every word Loeb has put to DC characters has been superb...I think between the death of his son and his inability to "connect" with Marvel characters has been Loeb's downfall of sorts.

i just don't see how i can go from richard rider to this. the man was nova prime. the last of the corps, he spent most of his life off world saving people and even planets from the brink of destruction. i just can't get behind having a youngster get behind the mask and travel around space like it's a joy ride.
Loeb has had up and down points in his writing so i'm not saying this wont be good, it's just the weight of being part of the nova corps doesn't feel right on the shoulders of a 14 year old.

Loeb may be a poor Marvel writer.. but any company that greenlights a single goddamn word that Dan Slopp puts to paper has a SERIOUS editorial disease

I guess the "Unlettered" version will be the best version.
I'll also jump on the "Bring back Nova Prime" bandwagon.

is it just me or does the bald guy with the bow-tie look like Mr. Strickland from Back to the Future. The moment i saw him i the only thing i could think of is...

" You got a real attitude problem, McFly. You're a slacker. You remind me of your father when he went here. He was a slacker, too."

This is going to be as bad as thunderbolts.

I find it funny when people say jeph loeb is a great DC writer because he's not. While he has written the long Halloween (which is amazing), and I've heard great things about superman: for all seasons, he hasn't written anything worth reading. Dark victory is literally beat for beat the same story as long Halloween, batman: hush is incredibly mediocre and very predictable, the one saving grace about that is jim lee's art is superb as usual, batman/superman public enemies is incredibly dumb and completely ignored what the main superman title was doing with lex luthor, emperor joker is awful and not what the joker is. His marvel work is even worse. Much like his DC work he has 2 great stories (Spider-Man: Blue and Daredevil: Yellow), everything else is awful. Hulk: Gray and Red Hulk take a huge shit on Peter David's amazing run. Ultimates 3 takes a shit on Ultimates 1&2, and ultimatum should be used as a method of torture.

Too be fair, a great deal of stories from Marvel have been crap and from many different writers. Could be said that Marvel's direction for it's comics as a whole, could be what's bringing the writer's credentials down. Not completely but could definitely play a role in it.

I don't get it. They brought back Thanos. They brought back Quill. How the hell is it that Rider is the only one who got TKO'd?!?!?! He's my 4th favorite Marvel hero of all time....
