Details On Four Characters Being Cast For CONSTANTINE

Well, their names at any rate! According to Ksite, everyone's favorite foul mouthed occultist will be joined by three characters that might be familiar to Hellblazer readers.

Ksite reports that, in addition to John Constantine himself of course, NBC will be looking to cast the following characters in their tv adaptation of the DC comic: Chas, Liv and Manny. Now Chas should need no introduction to Hellblazer fans - he's been John's pal and right-hand man through most of the series; and Shia LaBeouf played a much younger incarnation of him in the Constantine movie. The other two names though, I don't recognize..and I was a big fan of the comic. Did I miss them along the way or are these more likely new creations? The show will be produced by The Mentalistt executive producer Daniel Cerone and, the man who now very much seems to be DC/WB's go-to-guy, David S. Goyer.

You can't have an authentic Constantine series without those characters.
Chas better be a cabbie, too.

If they follow the series in tone and form (I've read every issue up until cancellation and even though it started losing steam near the end it was still head and shoulders over a lot of titles), you will have pure TV gold.

My only concern is the limits that will be placed on the show due to it being on NBC. I feel like it should be on Showtime or HBO but I've willing to give it a shot.

I think the film really missed the mark, and they now have a chance to put Constantine in true focus.

Hated the movie but I'll give this series a try.

I think the movie will make most people a little reluctant to believe the series will be worth looking at.

Effects carried through series like Grimm will help make this the dark nature it will require.
The series American Horror Story, Sleepy Hollow, and Grimm (to name a few) will bring fans of those types of shows who will bring in ratings.

i think they can make this dark and scary but still have that sarcstic dry wit that constantine has, plus NBC recently has been able to kind of stretch the boundaries of blood and gore due to Hannibal(i havent seen but i want to) Grimm( good show) and the Blacklist( really good, spader rules),out of the dc tv shows that they have announced that are in production, this and Flash have my attention

I don't recall any Livs or Mannies in the comics, but JC is always meeting new people, so that's no biggie. I just don't want to see another pathetic American catholic rendition of this character. Go British or go home!

I hope as the series go on we get Zatanna and Swamp Thing as supporting characters.

Whoops, I saw Chas, and got too excited. I didn't read the other two names.
I don't recognize those names either.

Hmmm....well I guess it's too late to edit my original post but the point I was making was that the show should use the original characters. My bad.

Yeah, I think Manny and Liv may be new and created for the show.

In this day in age in TV, Constantine should be able to draw in fans of Grimm, Supernatural, Sleepy Hallow, and even Charmed. I cannot wait for this show to come out.

I liked the movie. A bad adaptation maybe..but for what it was it was decent.

LOL, well I was just making a point about premature griping that's all.
The movie left a sour aftertaste for a lot of people.

I've never seen his movie, the most I've seen of him was in the Trinity War story arc. Pretty interesting character.

@RorMachine

I liked it too, mostly just for what it was.

I just don't look at it as Hellbazer, but rather an entertaining supernatural flick.

I watched the film more than once, even though people around me wondered why.

So DC can create new characters and Marvek can't? WTF?

Lol, I don't care either way, looking forward to this show. I actually really enjoyed the movie, and I hope they keep John British as well. Should be interesting to see.

Manny could be a code name for "Midnight" in an attempt to hide details, same goes with Liv....although I'm not sure who she could be unless it is just an new love interest. He had quite a few minor ones, to include Zatanna.

@Merc Who said Marvel can't create new characters?

@yonny

All the haters in AoS threads, lol. Something about not Marvel enough. It was a joke, though. I really want to see this show succeed. I like the character of Constantine, so I'm pretty interested.

Before AoS even aired, it started to receive some criticism for making new agents and characters that aren't originally from the comics.

I don't mean to turn the table on the topic of this article, but you're right and the people who do complain about AoS's use of characters don't understand that Marvel can't have certain types of characters on the show because they're tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they'll bitch anyways even if the character does get on the show and they wish they would've saved them for the big screen.

You win the thread with that one. Now let's stay on topic, although I'm sure I'll get headhunted for mentioning the company that shall remain nameless...

You know, I agree with you @Beserk.

My only complaint is that the first season has seemed rocky. The episodes all feel the same to me. Fly in a jet, someone’s in trouble, save someone, fly in a jet. That with a little fighting and it just seemed a little repetitive. Other than that I enjoy the show. AND it is the first season. Arrow, for instance, got off to a kind of rocky start, but the Second season has improved a lot.

@rormachine- Agreed. I liked it for what it was. It's just not the John Constantine I see when I close my eyes.

I was a huge fan of the Hellblazer title. I was sad to see it go when DC did this new 52 thing. I felt it was a series that could go on forever similar to any of the greats. Dunno how to feel about the tv show 'til I see some more from it.

I vote for Aiden Gillen for Constantine. He can't last much longer on GoT, no one does.
