Brandon Routh To Fly Again?

Brandon Routh lets us know whether he is interested, or not, in returning to the role that got him out of the bar and on to the big screen.

Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington dropped a little bit of "Superman: Man of Steel" info today at the SDCC during the "Dead of Night" Panel.

When asked the ground breaking question if there were any new news on the project: Huntington quickly shouted "No!" But thank god Routh likes us fans. He was a little more apt to let us in on what was in fact going on. The "Superman Returns" star said that there is new momentum on the project and that he and Sam are both interested in returning for a sequel, if it happens.

As soon as deals are signed and letters are written you will be able to gather up all that news right here on ComicBookMovie.com

Routh can't act! You can try all you want to pin his performance on Singer, but at the end of the day, it is all him. You guys are irrational zealots. Look at all of Routh's body of work. He cannot effectually execute his roles with authenticity. But, hey! Keep chanting. I say, "redo" with someone that looks like the one in the image in the article. They don't have to do an entire reboot. Just pick up with the assumption that he is already known to the world. Then bring in an adversary of high-caliber. Someone like Darkseid, Brainiac, or Zod that could actually put a hurt on Superman. Killing him right now would certainly put a deathnell in the franchise and then a reboot is in order. How could anyone hurt him after coming back from the dead. Save Doomsday for the end.

I thought he was pretty funny [though it was brief] with Justin Long in Zach and Miri make a Porno. This comes from a guy that hates just about everything.

Phinehas just because you don't think he can act, doesn't mean its so! Nearly everyone can admit, regardless of they're feeling for Superman Returns, that the guy made a great Supes. I have also seen Zack and Miri in which he played a completely different role and did it convincingly. You don't like him, that's cool! Dead of Night will show what hes made of for better of worse

Here is another problem with his return to the role. It will confuse average moviegoers (non-fans) regarding the new continuity. They'll see Routh and think its a true sequel to the abortion known as SR! There are other people the CAN DO this.

i say do a true sequelwith a couple tweeks.
forst off recast Lois, make Lex a secondary villain, someone in the background but not the main protaganist, forget the kid storyline and get him a villain that can take a Superman punch, and have them duke it out downtown Metropolis, busting up buildings and cars.

a true sequel would work if you amp up the action a lot, and make minor adjustments.

make those little changes and put together a kickass trailer and people will watch the movie.

Kratos, are you in that picture? BTW, in what way is this appelation applied to me based on my objections to Routh reprising his role? You know, I find that many people that make these kind of judgments of others actually have the same qualities. Are you speaking from experience?

"Where the frick do you think they are gonna find some steroid beefcake that can act?"
1. Don't you think some actors do physical training? Look at "300".
2. I'm sure you have personal knowledge of where to find some.

Rorschach01, I completely agree sir. However I must add that there are so very many people that don't see it that way. And believe me, I have never once heard a good explaination about why that is. I thought his Christopher Reeves-esque portrayal was tasteful and calculated and the man's acting was quite passable.

One thing I didn't like about the movie was the textured plastic "S" on his chest. In close ups it just seemed sort of cheap. But of course that's a relatively minor detail.

ManhuntersBastardChild
ManhuntersBastardChild - 7/23/2009, 2:52 PM
Darth, I am with you, dad! The S was tiny and messed up, but acting-wise I think that Routh did okay. There were some personal touches Singer and the writers put on the SR supes rendition that are just not okay. The whole crash landing of his kryptonian space ship was messed up, the whole eavesdropping on Lois and the cyclops dude, took the super outta the man, and please for god's sake, whose idea was it to give him a kid? I hate to be the one starting the petition on here, but that kid has gots to die (really early in the picture) if they plan on a sequel.

They definitely need to reboot Superman after Returns was basically just a lame tribute to movies 20-30 years old. the question is would a reboot work with the same actor?
Phinehas
Phinehas - 7/23/2009, 2:59 PM
So howabout Routh's nasally voice? Wasn't it great?! What about that part when Lex stabbed him with kryptonite and he screamed like an 11 year-old girl, "But I'm Superman! I'm Superman!" That was awesome! A personal fave of mine...

I have no problem with Routh, he was an OK Superman, but having him aboard will be confusing if you are trying to reboot the franchise, so I’ll have to say: Out with him!

While I would definately prefer a new Supes for a new movie, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if they brought back Routh. The main reason I didn't like Routh as Supes was because he was doing a bad Reeves impression the whole movie, which I can now see is part Singer's fault since he wanted to make it just like the original 2 Superman films. But Routh was responsible for not doing much to make the role his own and make a memorable performance out of it. Also, Routh didn't look like a Superman and the suit helped with that. But now that Routh is older and a bit more experienced, maybe he can give us a great and original Superman performance. The only other problem I see is whether to do a reboot or a sequel. The sequel would be good because we do't have to go through the whole origin and we would very likely see a super villain since Lex has been done in every movie in that continuity. But there is also the kid, Richard White, bitchy Lois, etc. Maybe they could do a reboot but quickly go through the origin and establish the hero that Supes is in the first like 20 minutes and then it's whatever they want to do for the rest. The movie should be around 2 1/2 hours, and keep in mind that the action scenes would definately not make the film move slow.
