New Daredevil Movie To Be An Adaptation of Frank Miller's "Born Again"?

THR have posted an update suggesting that David Slade's Daredevil flick will adapt Frank Miller's acclaimed Born Again comic storyline..

Born Again would seem like the next logical step for Fox after the last film covered (loosely) Miller's Man Without Fear arc. But how much of the story will remain intact?

According to THR..

Sources say the new story line will be the adaptation of the critically acclaimed Frank Miller-written and David Mazzucchelli-illustrated Born Again run of the comic series, which saw the Kingpin of Crime learn the identity of the superhero and begin to systematically destroy his life.

They go on to say that as well as Slade at the helm, Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark of Chernin Entertainment are producing. They also say that no writer has been hired yet. Last we heard though, David Scarpa had been hired to turn in a script. Guess they went a different direction. They go on to confirm that this movie will be a continuation of the last and NOT a reboot as many sites are reporting this as.

For those who have never read Miller's Born Again it deals with Daredevil's fall to madness at the hands of the Kingpin, as well as his subsequent struggle to build a new life for himself. It also features an appearance by Captain America and The Avengers(let's assume that part won't make it in!)

I loved how they recreated the classic Miller scene where Bullseye kills Elektra (same lines and all) in the last movie. Sure, it was let down by some dodgy CGI and costumes, but good all the same. Basing it on this storyline is a great idea, although it wouldnt hurt them to think about looking at the Bendis/Brubaker stuff too.

Born Again is a great DD story. It made me really like the character Nuke. In Born Again Fisk learns Matt Murdock is Daredevil from a strungout Karen Page. But in the first movie Matt already revealed himself at the end. Hows that gonna work?

Would love for an Avengers cameo. Seeing as that probably won't happen, here's a list of characters that could cameo: Any Fantastic 4 member, any X-Men member, and that's about it.

In this, Kingpin would probably just get out of prison and ruins Matts life like he did in Born Again. Probably just cut out Karen all together.

They will just leave out The Avengers. They aren't integral to the story anyway it's really just a cameo. Although Cap does stick around a bit. My guess is it will just be a loose adap like the first one was. Which I liked:)

Thats one of the greatest graphic novels ever written. Thats a movie I would want to see aronofsky direct. Many fox has learned therre lesson, I mean they so far made the write choice of director with the new wolverine. I didn't like afflict in the part though.

@longbowhunter: My guess is they'll skip straight to Kingpin screwing with Murdock. Fisk gets out of jail and systematically screws with Murdock while passing himself off as a reformed man. Murdock can't prove Fisk's culpability in his misfortunes because of the latter's cunning and the former's desire to maintain his cover. Of course, Fisk may not be screwing with him at all and Murdock's just being paranoid. As a result, Murdock has a psychological breakdown.

Born Again is a logical choice, but it´s hard to feel excitement when the movie´s still at Fox. They screwed up - immediately or eventually - all comic book franchises they handled.

meh. I didn't hate the first one (the director's cut is pretty good) just as long as ben isn't back. He was "ok", looked the part, but just... wasn't. I love me so Jen G but she is NOT Elektra either

While a lot of people crap on Fox for the first DD movie, and even Ben Affleck - the Director's Cut DVD made a WORLD of difference! I hated the cinematic version, but LOVED the movie after seeing the Director's cut. It's a real shame that they didn't put that into the theaters.

The only person I did NOT like in either version, was Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin. I love the actor, but for me he was just NOT right for that role. He had WAY too much fun with it and it did not make the character menacing at all to me. Personally, I liked Affleck's performance as both Murdock and Daredevil, especially DD. The park fight sequence with Elektra was way too over the top though. Colin Farrell as Bullseye was a complete masterpiece! He was zany, dangerous, erratic and totally cool! Some may disagree, but I found his performance to be the perfect flip-side to Affleck's Daredevil.

I would love to see a sequel, but they REALLY need to cast someone else as Kingpin. MCD just didn't have that persona for me at all.

James Gandolfini should be Kingpin.

The only way they won't [frick] it up is if they let Miller write the script. If they do that it might work. I don't know why they won't stick to canon.

Nothing bad about this so far...Is Affleck coming back?

People should stop worrying about Fox! Every studio puts out bad movies and it usually occurs when they hire a bad DIRECTOR, which Slade is not. He made the good Hard Candy, the Decent 30 days of Night, and the not good but best in series (apparently) Eclipse. I bet if Ironman 2 was a Fox film people would giving that so much more flak then it got.
