During his fifth appearance on Guest Grumps playing Super Castlevania IV promoting Renfield's VOD release, Game Grumps co-host Arin Hanson asked Ben Schwartz "If you could be a Marvel superhero that you think you would get what would it be?" Schwartz replied "DC I wanna be Plastic Man." Hanson enthusiastically agreed "Oh, Plastic Man would be great. Oh, you'd be a great Plastic Man! You kinda look like him too." Schwartz added "I know. I know. That's why. I really, really wanna be Plastic Man. Umm, who knows? Maybe one day. I think the-- there's an article about me wanting to be Plastic Man somewhere, so on this press tour I got asked like 20 times about Plastic Man. And I'm like 'Guys, James is never going to let me be Plastic Man!'"
Schwartz has over the years spoken about wanting to play Plastic Man and expressed his interest when a Plastic Man film was reported to be in development back in 2018. The film was to be written by Amanda Idoko and executively produced by Robert Shaye. In December 2020, writer Cat Vasko was brought on to rewrite the script with a female lead in place of Patrick O'Brian. The project seems to have since been shelved since DC Studios' formation.
Hanson also reminded Schwartz that Shang Chi actor Simu Liu eventually won the titular part after posting on Twitter his desire for wanting to play the master of kung fu. Maybe one day it might happen for the Renfield and Sonic the Hedgehog actor and James Gunn may let Schwartz play as DC Studios' Plastic Man as well.
Schwartz also admits he would want to play Marvel's Slapstick, who resembles an animated cartoon clown, created by Len Kaminski and James Fry. Slapstick first appeared in September 1992 and has made appearances alongside the New Warriors, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Mercs for Money with Deadpool. A character so obscure and cartoony, perhaps he could make an appearance with Deadpool or even in a second season for She-Hulk.
What do you think? Could you see Ben Schwartz playing Plastic Man?
