A petition has been floating around to get Ryan Reynolds to host Saturday Night Live as Deadpool and well, as it turns out, the Merc did come very close to hosting once... but then this happened.

The whole world loves Deadpool now. Having him on SNL is one of the most smartest things to do. It's a very good movie, and better than most X-Men movies out there.

@konoyaro - How rare is it for an artist to pursue something as long and passionately as Reynolds did with Deadpool, and have it pay off in such a huge way? Here's a guy who has been married to both ScarJo and Blake Lively, and yet this is somehow viewed as an underdog "B.O. loser makes good" story. I should be such a "loser"! Really happy for him, though...

Having Reynolds dress as Deadpool for the whole show is a horrible idea that wouldn't work in the context of a sketch comedy show.I can see him in the cold open, the monologue, a digital short, or a character on the news. However, if you put him in a regular sketch, like cowbell, or cheerleaders, he would stand out like a sore thumb and derail it. Once the actor becomes bigger than the sketch you loose the satire. Ala Frank Zappa and Milton Berle, who are both famous for being two of the worst hosts in SNL hstory by breaking the 4th wall and mugging for the camera.
