When Beyoncé was first cast in the upcoming Disney remake, many fans expected the award-winning singer/songwriter to create some new music for the film, and now Queen Bey has released her original single from The Lion King soundtrack.

According to an official statement, the track titled “Spirit," which was written by IIya Salmanzadeh, Timothy McKenzie and Beyoncé herself, will appear “during a pivotal scene” featuring the character Nala.

Along with the release of this new song, it was also announced that the Grammy winner will produce and curate the movie’s companion album, The Lion King: The Gift. While there aren't a lot of details on who will appear on this album, it will reportedly feature some of Beyoncé's favorite artists and "important African artists of the day."

The Lion King is set to roar into theaters on July 18, 2019, and The Gift will be released on July 19.

Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

Ya know, I'm probably in the minority, but I wish Beyonce had nothing to do with this film. Her singing powers are not in dispute, but I've just been kind of repulsed by the trashy persona she's projected ever since she left Destiny's Child and got 'corrupted' by J-Z.
Here's another pet peeve of mine, if I my rant on just a little more.
With Black Panther, much ado was made about the black director, black cast. With Lion King, recasting for more black actors in lead roles. Fine.
Why didn't these films get actual African actors rather than American actors?
I've loved African music since I was a kid. Paul Simon's Graceland album introduced me to some great legit African vibes in the glorious "80s on an album that still holds up today.
I like Donald Glover for sure, because he's real and not terribly pretentious in how he promotes his stuff, but what if these movies cast actual Africans in the roles - especially Black Panther? I gotta say, it's kind of clear several of the actors playing Africans seem too obviously like Americans pretending to be Africans with less than convincing results, good as they may be at their job, excepting Suri and her brother.Try Djimon Honsou from Stargate, Gladiator, The Four Feathers. He coulda been a great T'Challa (although he's probably a tad old for the role now). Mind you, the T'Challa we got did the job pretty convincingly, I think.

Song? I agree with the above guy.
Woulda done better chaneling some more African, tribal sounds like Hans Zimmer's score on the original and The Power of One (LISTEN if ya like the Lion King soundtrack).
