When Beyoncé was first cast in the upcoming Disney remake, many fans expected the award-winning singer/songwriter to create some new music for the film, and now Queen Bey has released her original single from
The Lion King soundtrack.
According to an
official statement, the track titled
“Spirit," which was written by IIya Salmanzadeh, Timothy McKenzie and Beyoncé herself, will appear
“during a pivotal scene” featuring the character Nala.
Along with the release of this new song, it was also announced that the Grammy winner will produce and curate the movie’s companion album,
The Lion King: The Gift. While there aren't a lot of details on who will appear on this album, it will reportedly feature some of Beyoncé's favorite artists and
"important African artists of the day."
The Lion King is set to roar into theaters on July 18, 2019, and
The Gift will be released on July 19.
