We first heard about Disney's Lilo and Stich live-action remake back in 2020, and the movie has now made its first major casting addition.
THR reports that actor/comedian Zach Galifianakis (Between Two Ferns, The Hangover) has closed a deal to star in the film.
Though the trade didn't reveal any details on his role at the time,it's since come to light that he'll actually be playing Pleakley, the one-eyed alien who pursues Stitch along with his creator, Dr. Jumba Jookiba, and dresses as a woman in an effort to blend in.
Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker Jon M. Chu was originally in negotiations to helm the project, but Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On) will now direct.
Rideback's Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are producing. Mike Van Waes wrote an early draft of the script, but Chris Kekaniokalani Bright penned the most recent version.
Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai who forms a bond with a blue alien called Experiment 626, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. It wasn't considered one of the Mouse House's bigger hits from a box office standpoint, but it remains a very popular entry in Disney's library, having spawned three direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series.
