Joaquin Phoenix Breaks Silence On DOCTOR STRANGE

Without going into great detail, actor Joaquin Phoenix has finally addressed rumors that he was almost Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme, and he also reveals certain comic books he's fond of. Check it out!

Though Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be all but confirmed to lead Marvel's 2016 Doctor Strange adaptation, actor Joaquin Phoenix was reportedly in talks to play the Sorcerer Supreme at one point, before those talks eventually fell through. Well, during an interview with Playboy magazine, the three-time Oscar-nominated actor finally addressed the casting rumor. "I can't talk about it," Phoenix started. "I’ve met on all sorts of movies throughout the years. What seems appealing about some of them is the idea of pushing myself in a way that’s out of my comfort zone. But really, it’s what I’m always looking for—good characters, big ideas and a passionate filmmaker. If those things line up with any kind of movie, I have interest in it." When asked if he has ever regretted turning down a role in a big movie, maybe a different Marvel movie or even Batman v Superman, Joaquin Phoenix admitted there is one. "There’s only one movie I regret saying no to—except the person who ended up doing it was so good and was absolutely meant to do it, so I don’t have any regrets. I’m not going to say which one, but it was a really big hit. It’s getting to the point where they’re making some pretty decent movies. I thought Iron Man was fantastic."  Furthermore, Joaquin Phoenix was asked did he like comic books growing up, to which he replied,  "There’s some great Batman stuff and classic Frank Miller Dark Knight stuff and Arkham Asylum. But I was always a big Wolverine guy. I love Wolverine—big [frick]ing great dramatic character. They’re all conflicted, and they’re really interesting." What do you think?

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2016!

Great actor but glad he's not doing it, I don't know if his head would be in it for multi picture deal.

PLAYBOY: In three decades as an actor, you’ve received Oscar nominations for Gladiator, Walk the Line and The Master, won a best actor Golden Globe for Walk the Line and been nominated for dozens of other U.S. and international awards. You’re most identified with isolated, intense, troubled characters in films by some of the most individualistic directors, including, most recently, Her by Spike Jonze, the upcoming Inherent Vice by Paul Thomas Anderson and a new dramatic film by Woody Allen. Aspects of your life and your off-screen behavior have caused some to think of you as eccentric, unfiltered, maybe even unhinged. Can we discuss what’s real and what’s not about that?

PHOENIX: Oh boy.

lmao

I would love to see Phoenix play Old Man Logan. He would totally be able to pull that off.

@BigMikeReviews It was confirmed that he turned down the role since, like w/ Doctor Strange, he didn't want to sign a multi-picture deal.

Somebody please find a loophole in the Fox/X-Men contract and suit Joaquin Phoenix up as Wolverine in Avengers 3. Make it an issue like Quicksilver/ Scarlet Witch. When he mentioned it, I could instantly see it!!!

He's really looking terrible lately. Looks like he's aged almost 20 years in the past 10 years.

So he basically said in his own little way that it was ironman he regrets not doing but rdj has done such a great job he can't really regret it, man I wish he had taken the luthor role, maybe offer the joker to him, sounds like he'd be up for playing wolverine when Hugh jackman steps down

@DavidGray I read that like he was suggesting he passed on Iron Man but in a round about way.

Asmodeus - 11/12/2014, 10:02 AM
I know people are excited to think he could play Wolverine but there is no way in hell Fox replaces a 46 year old Jackman with a 40 year old Phoenix. They will want someone with longevity if and when they replace Jackman.
