Captain Marvel's Gemma Chan is in negotiations to join the cast of Marvel's The Eternals, and it sounds like she may be playing a completely new character.

According to Variety, the Crazy Rich Asians actress is set to join the already impressive ensemble, but sources are uncertain is she'll be reprising the role of Minn-Erva. If she is playing someone else, it would mark the first time an actor would portray two different characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - not counting the Netflix shows.

Chan is said to be one of the leads, which suggests that she could be portraying the mysterious "Karen" we heard about when the first character descriptions found their way online.

The Eternals is set to hit theaters on Nov. 6, 2020, and will also star Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani.

UPDATE: Collider reports that Dunkirk actor Barry Keoghan is also in talks to join the production in an undisclosed role.
