THE ETERNALS San Diego Comic-Con Poster Features A First Look At The Celestials

Marvel Studios delighted fans last night with a full cast reveal for The Eternals and it also looks like they treated Hall H attendees with an official concept art poster, which seems to feature a first look at four of the Celestials that will be introduced in the upcoming Chloë Zhao-directed superhero movie.

Last night's cast reveal introduced Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) as Thena, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) as Phastos, Salma Hayek (The Hitman's Bodyguard) as Ajak, Lia McHugh (American Women) as Sprite and Don Lee (Train to Busan) as Gilgamesh.

With filming expected to begin relatively soon, we should be hearing a lot more about The Eternals over the course of the next few weeks as Marvel Studios casts actors to play Sersi, James, the Deviants, and presumably, the Celestials as well.

The Eternals is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics race of the same name. The film is the twenty-fifth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the second installment of Phase Four. It will be released in the United States on November 6, 2020.

The Eternals features:
Director: Chloé Zhao
Angelina Jolie as Thena
Richard Madden as Ikaris
Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo
Lauren Ridloff as Makkari
Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
Salma Hayek as Ajak
Lia McHugh as Sprite
Don Lee as Gilgamesh

The Eternals hits theaters November 6, 2020

Aaaaaand just like that I'm all over this movie.

The Celestials are easily the most interesting part if the entire Marvel Universe to me. This is now a must watch.

@CorndogBurglar - the dc universe doesn’t have anything like this?

@XelCorp - New Gods is practically DC's Eternals counterpart but again Marvel is beating them to theaters with this concept. Both are similar Jack Kirby creations.

@LongMayHeReign - New Gods is in development, but I don’t know how much confidence I have in the director or the studio behind it.

Marvel is pumping out all of these amazing movies, and DC has equally amazing stories to tell. But until they get from under WB, and create their own studio that gets no interference from anyone else, I suspect their movies will continue to fall short of what they could be.

The DC universe is just as big and diverse and epic as Marvels. Believe it or not the works big enough for them both to do their own things and both be successful at it.

First things first, priorities. Establish a DC Studio w/ complete autonomy

The Celestials aren't as wide and bulky like jack kirby's designs:

They look more like sentinels from days of future past movie:

@MuadDib -

Ava seems better suited for documentaries/docu-series as opposed to superhero stuff but I'll see what she comes up with because she's clearly talented. It's a shame we haven't received a theatrical DC film universe that better reflects the true quality of the comics but I think a DC studio with autonomy would work IF you put the right people in it.

@mastakilla39 -

This is closer to the original look, although I don't mind the new version all that much.

@mastakilla39 - There's two in the background that look pretty bulky. They just look more varied in the poster than Kirby's original design.

@XelCorp - I don't know. The New Gods are pretty much the DC equivalent to the Eternals. But I'm not sure if there is anything in DC that is similar to the Celestials.

@LongMayHeReign - The only similar about the New Gods and the Eternals is they were created by Jack Kirby, other than that, they are not similar!

While I'm not an expert on this property, the Neil Gaiman comic series was great and I did recognise the Easter Eggs in Guardians. This should be good.

Glad that we will get to know more about the Celestials since we saw records of them using the Infinity Stones for "terra-forming" in GotG VOL.1 and also the skull of a dead one that makes up Knowhere.

pesmerga44
pesmerga44 - 7/21/2019, 7:44 PM
@Origame - In GOTG Vol 1 it is literally the Space Station Knowhere where they go to sell the Power Stone to Grandmaster. It is the head of a long dead Celestial.

This my most hyped film for phase 4.

This is god-damned beautiful concept art. Marvel seems to be feeling it's oats (and rightfully so) and is going more creatively kookie, less tent-pole, which I think is a great thing to do.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the more Kirby-esque we get with the cosmic side of things, the better, and this REEKS of Jack Kirby.

Bring it on. The Eternals, I think, will be game changing.

@theprophet - I don't think we will see him, but I definitely think he will be referenced or name dropped at least. He is definitely being set up as the next big bad. If we do see him this soon it will probably be a post-credits stinger a la Thanos in Avengers 1.
