Here's my fun list of predictions for the future of the MCU. I've left Ant-Man off of the table because we still don't know whether it's Phase 2 or 3.
PHASE 2
Iron Man 3
1. Bruce Banner Cameo
The bromance between Tony and Bruce and the fact that Mark Ruffalo is signed to six films makes this a logical fit.
2. Pepper Potts is Pregnant
This would be both surprising, (it never happened in the comics) and a good way to grow Tony as a character. More on this later.
3. Post Credit: Ant-Man!
What better way is there to boost your least popular solo hero than promoting him with your most popular solo hero?
Thor: The Dark World
4. Fandral and Darcy
The popularity of Darcy/Kat Dennings and the recasting of Fandral(Zachary Levy has a built in fan base from Chuck), makes this a match made in Asgard.
5. Loki Redeemed
After his turn as the villain in the Avengers, everyone loves Loki. Tom Hiddlston plays him like he's always on the verge of doing the right thing. Maybe this time he does.
6. Post Credit: The Winter Soldier
Sebastian Stan has a multi-picture deal and seeing Bucky in full Winter Soldier getup for the first time would make the fans go crazy.
Captain America: Winter Soldier
7. Steve and Peggy Will Dance
This has the potential to be one of the most emotional and poignant scenes in comic book movie history.
8. Sin/Bernie
Steve gets close to a modern woman named Bernie Rosenthal. In a twist, Steve, Bernie, and the audience find out that she has been a sleeper agent all along. The Red Skull's psychotic descendant, Sin. This introduces two characters at once and could be a gut punch.
9. Sidekick Drama
At some point Steve will have to choose between Sam and Bucky, and he will choose Sam. This will fit the theme of Steve having to choose between the present and the past.
10. Invaders cameo
The Invaders will have a cameo in a flashback. This would be a quick and easy cameo that would please fans. More about this in Phase 3 predictions.
11. Black Widow Flashbacks
Scarlett Johansson's only appearances will be in Winter Soldier flashback scenes. The movie is getting a little crowded so this is an effective way to squeeze her in.
Guardians of the Galaxy
12. Carol Danvers
An Air-force pilot who aspires to be an astronaut. Carol Danvers always looks to the stars. The stars come to her when she is "abducted" by the Guardians of the Galaxy. Why do they take her? She is the daughter of a recently deceased cosmic hero and they need her help to stop a dark force (Thanos obviously). This kills two birds with one stone: giving the audience a pov character and prepping a strong female member for Avengers 2.
13. Mar-Vell
Captain Marvel is the aforementioned hero. What most of the galaxy doesn't know is that he did a stint on Earth, spying for the Kree empire. While there, he had an affair with a human woman and they had a daughter (Carol obviously). Mar-vell will be important thematically, as Carol tries to live up to her father.
14. Moondragon
The right hand woman of Thanos. She has no memory of her former life and is blindly loyal to her master. Moondragon will play an important role in Avengers 2. More later.
15. Death of Guardians
Thanos kills all of the Guardians except for Carol, who escapes to Earth to warn the Avengers. This establishes Thanos as an extreme threat and gives Carol good motivation for Avengers 2.
16. Post Credits Scene
This will be a teaser of Avengers 2 much like the teaser of The Avengers after Captain America.
Avengers 2
17. One-Shot
There will be a short in front of Avengers 2. Black Panther or Doctor Strange
18. New Members
Falcon, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man.
19. Ant-Man: Lovable Screw-up
Recently dismissed from S.H.I.E.L.D due to a lack of successful projects, Hank Pym breaks into Avengers tower to impress S.H.I.E.L.D and his ex-girlfriend...
20. Wasp: Unlikely Hero
Janet Van Dyne is the suit designer for S.H.I.E.L.D taxed with designing a new suit for Captain America. In over her head, she will become a hero in the duration of the film.
21. Love Triangle
With everyone making nice at the end of the Avengers we could use a dose of inter-team turmoil. Enter the Steve/Janet/Hank love triangle. These things also don't hurt with the female crowd. I'm seeing Team Steve/Team Hank shirts everywhere.
22. The Hulk Gets Stranded
The Hulk is Thanos' biggest physical threat, therefore Thanos will remove him. Partway through the film Hulk will be transported to a remote alien planet with no technology. More soon.
23. Ant-Man Creates Ultron
In an attempt to be useful Hank creates a powerful synthetic being to help defeat Thanos. More soon once again.
24. Thor Dies
Come on it's Joss Whedon, somebody has to die! And Thor makes sense for many reasons. It would have emotional weight for the audience and the characters, as well as further Thanos' badassery. Thor dying also works on a practical level. Asgardians get resurrected. It's kind of their deal. So if it is done right, bringing Thor back for his third film shouldn't illicit an eye roll from fans.
25. Captain America is Worthy
How does Captain America stay relevant during a cosmic event? By getting a cosmic weapon. Look for Cap to deal the finishing blow on Thanos with his fallen comrade's hammer.
26. Moondragon Betrays Thanos
Moondragon will remember/find out her past, and realize that Drax was her father. She will turn on her master, turning the tide for our heroes and avenging her father's death.
27. Avengers Initiative
The battle effects Tony more than usual due to the fact that he is now a father. In order to protect the future for his child he decides to expand the Avengers program, recruiting dozens of new recruits. A way of bringing in countless characters without worrying about origins.
28. Thanos Lives
Killing Thanos wouldn't be much of a punishment( he loves death) and I'm sure the audience will want to see more of him anyway.
29. Mid Credits Scene
Bruce Banner wakes up on a barren planet surrounded by hostile aliens.
30. Post Credits
Annihilus is gets informed that Thanos has been defeated. With a power vacuum, Annihilis and his horde can make their move. The messenger is Ultron.
PHASE 3
1. Avengers 3 in 2019
Following the Nolan/Dark Knight model, there will be a four year gap between the second and third films in the trilogy. This gives Whedon the time to make his "Inception" in 2017. This also gives Marvel the chance to slate eight films for Phase 3 instead of six.
2. Sequels
Planet Hulk, Captain America: The Invaders, Thor 3
3. Non Sequels
Black Panther, The Inhumans, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, The Runaways
4. Winter Soldier will costar in Black Widow.
5. Carol Danvers will star in Inhumans.
Thus ends my crazy predictions list. Let me know your thoughts as well as your predictions.
