I’m looking to modernize this film with a slightly older cast. I want the Rangers to be fresh out of college instead of stuck in HS. I want the film and characters to have some sense of realism so I redesigned a few of them but I don’t want it to take itself too seriously. I’m thinking something along the lines of a Hellboy type of feel. I would try to make the suits more modern and armor type instead of spandex. I’m thinking similar to the Tron outfits with some of the Kevlar plates from the Batman suit molded in. I would streamline the Zords and make them more real and useable. I would have them be actual vehicles the Rangers would drive that had the Power to create the dragonzord similar to how the Transforms movies do it. With that out of the way, enjoy the cast:
Red Ranger/ Jason: Armie Hammer
Breakdown: He starts off the film as the one the group looks towards for direction but he is too immature, stubborn and insecure to make the proper decisions. He has an unspoken love for Kimberly that his insecurity was stopped him from acting on and his internal issues leads the group to turn a stranger (Tommy/Green Ranger) for help and guidance. His storyline’s will resolve mainly on his coming of age into the leader of the Power Rangers, as well as his father/son relationship with Zordon and pining for Kimberly. He will have a starring role in the film.
Green Ranger/ Tommy: Alex Pettyfer
Breakdown: He’s the antihero of the film. He’s a rebel with no family, living off the street by himself since he was a child. He’s heart is good and he wants to do well but he can’t find the right guidance and is easy manipulated by Zedd’s mind games. He be-friends the Power Rangers and is unknowingly used by Zedd to infiltrate the Rangers and keep tabs on them. He is the 3rd piece of the love triangle that includes Jason and Kimberly. He doesn’t necessarily like Kimberly, but likes the fact that flirting with her gets under Jason’s skin as he is jealous that Jason is becoming everything that Tommy wishes he was. He will have a starring role in the film.
Pink Ranger/ Kimberly: Teresa Palmer
Breakdown: She’s the positive one. She’s the most compassionate, loving and motivational one of the group. Jason loves her but she doesn’t know it. They have been friends for awhile and she has never suspected anything. She has eyes for Tommy and his bad boy attitude because it’s completely the opposite of what she represents. She’s the least skilled of the group but she’s also one of the bravest and she’s the one Jason needs in order to become the hero he needs to be. She’s basically the straw the stirs the drink although she can easier get herself into bad situations by trying to help others. He’s feisty, sassy and not the everyday girl next door the original series painted her as but she’s got the best heart of the bunch and is good natured in every sense. She will have the main supporting role in the film.
Blue Ranger/ Billy: Andrew Garfield
Breakdown: He’s Zordon’s tech buddy and a math wiz that knows it all. He’s smart and is responsible for coming up with the game plans and how everything will work. He’s the “architect” of the group. In a change from the original, I’d prefer him to be somewhat girl crazy that likes to hit on women and can easily get distracted by the damsel in distress. He’s got a close relationship and is best friends with Jason being loyal to a fault. He doesn’t easily get angry and is the tamest of the group. He will have a medium role in the film.
Yellow Ranger/ Aisha: Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Breakdown: I decided to take some liberties with this role. I didn’t want to tie myself to sticking strictly to the original because I wanted to cast the right actresses that fit what I was looking for. I felt my choice was perfect for what I wanted and obviously the original name of Trini didn’t fit with the character so I decided to go ahead and use a more fitting name, which happened to be one also used by the 2nd Yellow Ranger in the series. As far as the character, I wanted her to be a bad ass. I wanted his to be the hot shot of the group who was ballsy, hardcore and didn’t take crap from anyone but whom also had that loveable female quality to her that allowed the audience to care about her character. She will only have a medium to small role in the film.
Black Ranger/ Zach: Ne-Yo
Breakdown: The last of the Power Rangers. He the only one that knows Tommy from the start and originally makes a connection between Tommy and the rest of the Rangers. He is street smart and can take care of himself but he is also loyal and a hardworker. He can be mean and have an attitude at times but generally falls in line under Jason. He will have a small role in the film.
Zordon: Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Breakdown: I’m taking a few liberities with this character as well. Instead of having a human being stuck inside of a computer being run by a robot (Alpha 5), I’m going to reverse the roles. Alpha 5 will be the computer construction that is in charge of all the weaponry, gadgets and power suits that the Rangers will wear (Think Jarvis from the Iron Man movies). Zordon will be an old washed up Ranger from another era that works with Alpha 5 in trying to establish a new younger generation of Rangers and in turn he becomes their mentor and father-figure. He will have a medium role in this film which will get smaller in any additional films.
Zedd: Mickey Rourke
Breakdown: He’s the main villain of the film. He’s also a character I had to take some liberties with in order to make the film a little more adult oriented. Instead of the whole alien thing he had going on in the series. I’m going to make Zedd into a delusional mental patient who likes to call himself “Lord”. He’s a regular looking person that has delusions of grandeur that led to an accident at his mental hopistal that led to severe red burns and pieces of silver metal fused to his skin that cannot be removed. This is where he gets his appearance. Instead of having a full face mask, I’ll only give him breathing tubes that he needs for his lungs to work properly after the accident and some eye shades since his lashes were burned off. His goal isn’t anything elaborate like taking over the world. He simply wants to be known and his mental state leads him down serial killer type tendencies in order to make that happen. He will have a large role in the film.
Ivan Ooze: Joaquin Pheonix
Breakdown: Used simply at the end of the movie to set up a 2nd film. Ivan Ooze will never be fully seen in this film. We will merely see him in an after the credits scene as a doctor cleaning up some of the chemical spill from the accident Zedd caused in the mental hospital. He comes in contact with an unknown substance that begins to take him over before cutting to black.
Bulk: Riley Griffiths
Breakdown: I turned Bulk and Skull into younger Characters that could serve as some comic relief for the film and grow in future films. Instead of being 2 older morons, I felt they would be best served as being a couple of immature young kids. Bulk would serve as Skull’s best friend and resident bully. He’s got a little attitude and likes to pick on people including the Power Rangers. Little does he know that Skull’s brother is Billy, the Blue Ranger. He will have a small role in the film.
Skull: Ryan Lee
Breakdown: Refer to my breakdown of Bulk for more on his character. Skull will be Billy’s little brother in the film and will serve as Bulk’s best friend and favorite pain in the ass. He’s always teasing Bulk about his hatred for the Power Rangers even though he doesn’t know his brother actually is one. This revelation will take place in later films and serve to get Bulk and Skull a little more screen time. For now he will have a small role in this film. I picked Ryan Lee because I loved the dynamic he had with Riley Griffiths in Super 8 and I feel it would serve well in these roles.
