you know what Smallville is right?
Superman (or Clark Kent, i dunno, i don't watch it) growing up in his hometown of Smallville
why doesn't Batman get that? this was an idea i thought would be great for a TV series.
so, the name: GOTHAM
Plot: Batman and his one man war on crime
what's the point of these series?
well, lately Batman is getting a lot of attention. i mean A LOT. we've had Nolan's Batman trilogy, which is hectic. The two Arkahm games, which are F***ing awesome. Batman LIVE, the world tour of a live Batman performance which is currently in Europe.
the kid's cartoon series are still going. (lost it's touch though. whatever happened to the good ol 90's series?) and even DC animated universe has Year One and Under the Red Hood. Dark Knight Returns coming soon
but, we need a live action TV Series, and...oh sorry, i've gone off track *ahem*
WHAT IS THE POINT OF IT!?!
Well, with all the stuff going on with Batman, i beleive the wider population of fans should be made aware of some the less known characters or stories. for instance: how many people were actually aware of Ra's al Ghul when Batman begins came out? i certainly didn't know him, i don't think i knew much of the Scarecrow either. How many people knew Hugo Strange and his knowledge of Batman before Arkham City, or feared the monstrous Killer Croc or Mr. Zsasz before Asylum? i'm guessing not many knew who they were
"Is that Lizard from Spider Man?"
"No, that's Killer Croc"
so, the point of GOTHAM is to make the less hardcore fans more aware of lesser known characters, stories and relationships in the Batman universe. Certainly, the likes of Joker and Riddler need to be present, you can't have Batman without his arch nemesis (personally, you can't have him without the Riddler either)
and the stories? everyone knows the story of Bruce Wayne and the murder of his parents, or the man who would become the Joker falling into the at of chemicals. but do they know stories like The Killing Joke? Year One? War Games?
Finally the relationships. Catwoman isn't the only girl Bats has a thing for. he's tried his luck with Talia al Ghul,Vicki Vale and even Wonder Woman. and he even has a very weak, "freindship" with Joker, as seen in Killing Joke.
so, with that out of the way, how will the seasons play out?
well, i had a few idea's, and this is what i could come up with.
SEASON ONE: follows a Year One-like story. Batmans first year on the job see's him as a criminal himself, but has a secret alliance with Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent. he's pitted against the big crimes bosses in Gotham, the likes of Penguin, Falcone/Maroni and Black Mask (the mask burns into him somewhere over the season. the second half of the season should see the scarring of Harvey Dent and the birth of Two Face, and Batman's battle with Red Hood, which sets up second season...
SEASON TWO: i think should follow The Man Who Laughs story. Batman meets his greatest adversary for the first time, the Joker, who causes chaos in Gotham City throughout the whole season. at the same time, Batman goes up against several other villains who make their debut. Riddler, Two Face, Scarecrow, i think, would fit somehow into it all, and maybe Robin. Joker is finally arrested and sent to Arkham at the end of the season
SEASON THREE: the events of season two has convinced Ra's al Ghul, making his debut, that Gotham is nothing but scum and chaos and should be destroyed. Ra's kills himself just when Batman is about to arrest him. Batman also hunts down psychotic killer Mr. Zsasz, making his debut, and searches Gotham Sewers for the Monster Killer Croc. end of the season, Joker is broken out by his new girlfreind Harley Quinn.
FUTURE SEASONS: more characters, well known or not, should be introduced. Ra's al Ghul defs need to come back and try to get bats to hook up with Talia, stories like the Killing Joker and Knightfall should be explored.
Do you think this is a good idea?
that's all i got so far. but a TV series that makes the wider population aware of the deeper Batman Universe (as i call it) would be a great idea
