BLADE: TOMB OF DRACULA – Marvel’s Blade Movie Reboot FAN CAST

With Marvel Studios in full gear it's time to bring out more characters into the mix. I think it's time for a Blade reboot and here is my fan cast including a choice for a director I think would be perfect, read on!

With Blade back at Marvel Studios now, a reboot is inevitable. Although that, many fans would say “There is no hope for a reboot” or “Why reboot an already good franchise?”. The Wesley Snipes and David Goyer Blade films ended with Trinity in 2004. As good as those films are, they didn’t exactly follow the comics at all including the original “Tomb of Dracula” series in example. There have been many characters that have been left out in the mix of the new characters created for the films. That is what the reboot should follow, the original characters and storylines even from the new comics. Along with that there is potential for Blade’s original origin to be followed in the reboot as he was born in England and not America within the comics. Also Dracula’s portrayal in Blade Trinity, could definitely use a reboot.

First to start with, is the director I would want to see helm the reboot and the writers.

BLADE REBOOT DIRECTOR : DAVID AYER

David Ayer along with being a great writer is a brilliant director in terms of action films. He has yet to direct a comic book film today, another choice in mind for Ayer would be The Punisher, but I think there is potential with him and the character of Blade. He recently directed the 2012 hit End Of Watch and two films upcoming this year, Sabotage and Fury. He knows how to keep the audience on the edge of the seat in terms of writing and film direction. He could perfectly direct a fast paced action shot. He could make the Blade reboot as to what Guillermo del Toro did with Blade 2.

BLADE REBOOT WRITERS : MATTHEW VAUGHN & DAVID AYER

As David Ayer is a great writer, he has yet to be experienced within the comic book genre. As the film should also have a second writer who knows the genre in great detail. For that my second writer choice would be Matthew Vaughn. While he is a proficient director most of his strengths comes towards his written work and his love for the source material given. Ayer and Vaughn would make a great team.

Another important element, the music.

BLADE REBOOT MUSIC : RZA AND HOWARD DROSSIN

RZA and Howard Drossin previously worked together for the score on the film, The Man with the Iron Fists. One of the great things about the film was the music and I think it would be perfect for a Blade film, take a listen. The style composed and made differently could definitely suite the theme.

Now for the cast. I listed all the characters I could as possible. There may not be room to fit all of them in one movie so as I said there is character potential for sequels.

BLADE REBOOT : THE CAST

________________________________________________________

I decided to go for a much younger Blade since this has yet to be seen within the films. As this is a reboot also which should lean towards more into the re-origins side. Jesse Williams was featured in the Joss Whedon/Drew Goddard film Cabin in The Woods and also in many variety of other films. Cabin in The Woods really sold my idea on him playing Blade. We have yet to see the different version of the character which I believe he could pull off excellently.

________________________________________________________

Blade's mother who was killed by vampire Deacon Frost. Was later resurrected in the comics by Dracula to use against Blade.

________________________________________________________

Lucas Cross, born in Latveria is Blade's long lost father according to the comics. He was dying of a illness as a stranger offered him a chance to survive, which was to become a vampire. He met Blade later on in present time to help him. There is definitely potential for this character to appear in the first film and also a possible major role within the other films to come.
________________________________________________________

Jamal Afari is the man who eventually taught and raised Blade about the skills of vampire slaying. Who better to play the character in a reboot than the original Blade himself, Wesley Snipes. It would make a great appearance and also an excellent reference to the previous films. If Wesley Snipes wanted a roll in the reboot this would be perfect.
________________________________________________________

In the comics, Blade eventually joined a team led by Quincy Harker dedicated to fighting vampires. His role is as essentially as Blade himself in terms of history.
________________________________________________________

Rachel Van Helsing was raised by Quincy Harker who taught her the art of vampire slaying.
________________________________________________________

Abraham Van Helsing was a legendary monster hunter during the 1800s who frequently clashed with Dracula.
________________________________________________________

Noah Van Helsing is another vampire hunter who clashed with Blade later on in further efforts to defeat Dracula. He wasn't originally part of the line up from the original Tomb of Dracula run but would make a great addition.
________________________________________________________

Frank Drake was saved by vampire hunters Rachel Van Helsing and Taj Nital. Through them he met Quincy Harker and eventually joined their team of Vampire Slayers. Drake's trust for Blade was slow but came though the help of Hannibal King.
________________________________________________________

Harold is another member of Quincy Harker's team, he was also a reporter and writer.

________________________________________________________

Hannibal King who was previously seen in Blade Trinity played by Ryan Reynolds is a good friend of Blade. In the comics they formed a team called the Nightstalkers along with the help of Frank Drake.
________________________________________________________

Taj Nital is a vampire who chose sides to be good.

________________________________________________________

Professor John Carik developed psychic powers after encountering a mystical entity. He joined an order dedicated to fighting the forces of evil.
________________________________________________________

THE VILLAINS

________________________________________________________

I don't think anyone needs an introduction to Dracula, one of the most famous vampires of all time. My choice for the character, James Purefoy, was mainly influenced due to the television show The Following where he plays an excellent villain on there. He has the voice and he has the face to play this sinister character.
________________________________________________________

Lilith is the daughter of Dracula. She grew towards an intense hatred towards him for abandoning her and attacked many humans in her rage.
________________________________________________________

We all know the character of Deacon Frost from the first Blade film. He was the vampire responsible for the death of Blade's mother. Frost in the comics also turned Hannibal King into a vampire. He is one of the most sinister villains from Blade's own history. Rankin has starred in many great projects including playing a minor character in Breaking Bad.
________________________________________________________

Varnae was one of the last surviving vampires before the Great Cataclysm. He ruled over the vampires of Earth until 1459 and choose Dracula as his successor.
________________________________________________________

Morbius was supposed to appear in the previous Blade films as a villain, but it was scrapped. As nearly every single person who has cast Morbius has written down Benicio Del Toro, I decided to go for a much different choice. This actor does have a slight resemblance to Morbius and is also great.
________________________________________________________

MARVEL HEROES CAMEOS

________________________________________________________

The Danny Ketch Ghost Rider has clashed with Blade before in the comics. It would be great to see him make a cameo in the Blade reboot. Maybe a scene like this for example; Blade rides his motorcycle into a lot of a bar. He parks his bike next to one with a skull logo on the front. He walks into the bar and takes a seat then ordering a drink. Then someone sitting next to him says, "Put the drink on my pay". Blade looks over his shoulder, it's Danny Ketch. Danny Ketch knows who he is. "Hello Blade". "End Scene"
________________________________________________________

The Punisher, another great Marvel hero or more so an anti-hero. Maybe his cameo could be, as I mentioned above the possible bar scene with Danny Ketch. But instead The Punisher is shown on TV in a news segment that is playing. Would be a great reference and would open the doors to another reboot.

Is this your first serious fancast? If so, I only have one question--why McConaughey as Varnae?

No, I technically declare all my fan cast as being serious but if you want to declare it as my first serious one then it's your thoughts and opinions but not mine own.

I imagined the character of Varnae to have this deep spiritual voice, to be so mythological in terms and rooted. In mind my choice coming towards McConaughey as the character was rooted to his personality and his brilliant performance in the show now, True Detective. McConaughey's character does have that personality which tends to be mysterious and otherwise creepy in tone. That's the type of personality I see within Varnae. It could be great to have McConaughey in a comic book role.

I like it. I'd just switch Danny for Johnny. I like them both but, prefer the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider and the Dan Ketch villains. As I said though, I really like the cast.

I actually like the casting it's really good and amazing. I'm stunned also that this article is not satirical or comedic in any way. Great work on the casting. I also agree that McConaughey would be good to be cast in a comic book film he seems like too good of an actor to be passed. I know that McConaughey in the past stuck to romantic comedies but lately he has been partaking in serious roles in serious films and the actor does deserve more recognition.

Good choice for Blade. I agree with you about him in "Cabin in the Woods". He's already likable. A property like this would earn him some "leading man" points.
