Hey all,
Last week, I posted the first part of my large DC Cinematic Universe fancast, which focused on various members of the Justice League (you can read it by clicking HERE). As promised, my second of four parts will be covering the Teen Titans. I grew up watching the Cartoon Network show, and it (along with the DC Animated Universe) was my introduction to the DC Universe. I would like to see the team in future DC movies after establishing the Justice League. I decided to cast the nine members of the Titans that I most want to see on the big screen.
Victor Stone/Cyborg - Michael B. Jordan (
Chronicle,
Red Tails)
As I said before, I grew up watching the
Teen Titans animated series, so I'm more used to the idea of Cyborg as a member of the Titans than the Justice League (he's a founding member of the League in DC's "New 52"). Perhaps in a movie universe, Cyborg can be introduced as a League member, but later forms the Teen Titans. As for who should play him, Michael B. Jordan is perfect. He's physically built, and he has superhero experience with this year's
Chronicle. I've seen him mentioned for other heroes such as Static Shock and Aqualad, but personally, I think he's best suited for the more physical Cyborg.
Others I Considered: None
Dick Grayson/Nightwing - Daniel Radcliffe (
Harry Potter,
The Woman In Black)
Radcliffe is best known for starring in the highly successful
Harry Potter film series, so I'm sure Warner Bros. will want to continue working with the young actor. He recently said that he would be interested in playing a superhero, specifically naming The Flash. While I don't see him as the Scarlet Speedster, I think he would be excellent as Dick Grayson. He has plenty of experience with action and playing a heroic character, and he's a good actor. Oh, and I'm personally not a fan of Grayson as Robin. When he's brought to the big screen again, I'd prefer if they skipped to his becoming Nightwing.
Others I Considered: None
Koriand'r/Starfire - Camilla Belle (
10,000 BC,
Push)
Starfire was a difficult character to cast without going with an obvious fan favorite (like Jennifer Lawrence or Mary Elizabeth Winstead). After much consideration, I decided to go with Camilla Belle. She's a pretty good actress, and was definitely the best thing to come out of Roland Emmerich's absolutely horrible
10,000 BC. As for the character, I would like to see Starfire have a role similar to her role in the
Teen Titans animated series. I also wouldn't mind at all if there's a romance between her and Dick Grayson, like in the series.
Others I Considered: Jennifer Lawrence, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Evan Rachel Wood, Emma Roberts
Conner Kent/Superboy - Liam Hemsworth (
The Expendables 2,
The Hunger Games)
Liam Hemsworth is an up and coming actor after his roles in
The Hunger Games and
The Expendables 2, but is still under the shadow of his brother Chris (who stars as Thor in a little film you may have heard about called
The Avengers). Hemsworth has a lot of potential as an actor, and a superhero role is only a given at some point. I'm surprised that I haven't seen him mentioned for Superboy yet. He's definitely physically fit to play Superman's cousin, and seeing Conner Kent on the big screen would be very interesting to say the least.
Others I Considered: Taylor Lautner (Ha! Just Kidding)
Virgil Ovid Hawkins/Static Shock - Jaden Smith (
The Day The Earth Stood Still,
The Karate Kid)
This will probably be the most divisive choice in this cast. I personally wasn't sure of the idea at first, but I think Smith would be a solid choice as Static. While not being the brightest cast member of
The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, Will Smith's son shows his acting chops in
The Karate Kid reboot, showing his potential for a bigger action role in the future. If he has matured enough in next year's
After Earth, then I would love to see him as Static Shock. Also, as a fan of the animated series which aired 2000-2004, I want to see Static have a rather big role in a
Teen Titans movie (even though he isn't as well known as a member as say, Cyborg or Robin).
Others I Considered: Michael B. Jordan
Raven Roth - Rooney Mara (
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,
The Social Network)
Mara is arguably the fan favorite choice for the role of Raven, and for good reason. Proving that she has the acting chops for a lead role in a film (even garnering a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance in
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last year), Mara also has a gothic look which is crucial for Raven. Again, I'd like to see the character have a role in a
Teen Titans film similar to her role in the animated show. Have her be the darkest member of the team, as opposed to several of the Titans being light-hearted.
Others I Considered: None
Bart Allen/Kid Flash - Michael Cera (
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,
Juno
Speaking of light hearted characters, I think Kid Flash would make for an interesting addition to the Teen Titans in a film. I decided to go with the Bart Allen version of the character, because I'd prefer to see Wally West a little older in a DC Cinematic Universe (similar to the
Justice League Unlimited version). Michael Cera has plenty of experience playing funny characters, and also has action experience with the severely underrated
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. He would be a very solid choice for Kid Flash.
Others I Considered: Andrew Garfield
Garfield Logan/Beast Boy - Anton Yelchin (
Terminator Salvation,
Star Trek)
Yelchin has appeared in several potential franchise movies, such as
Star Trek,
Terminator Salvation, and last year's
Fright Night reboot. So a superhero role for him at some point wouldn't be too surprising. I saw him mentioned for Beast Boy in prior casts, and I think he would be a good choice. He has plenty of action movie experience, and is a good actor. Oh, and the
Teen Titans show proved that Beast Boy can be incredibly awesome.
Others I Considered: Michael Cera
Tim Drake/Red Robin - Joel Courtney (
Super 8,
The Between)
Tim Drake is probably my favorite Robin next to Jason Todd, so a DC Movie appearance (whether it's in a
Batman film or
Teen Titans) is needed at some point. I didn't want to go with Logan Lerman; he's a decent actor, but I'm sick of seeing him suggested to play Robin. After some consideration and wanting to be original, I decided on
Super 8 star Joel Courtney. He's only 15, but he's already a pretty good actor. I think he would be a good choice to bring Tim Drake to life.
Others I Considered: Josh Hutcherson, Logan Lerman
Well, that's my cast for a
Teen Titans film. My next DC Cinematic Universe cast will take on various supporting characters.
