In 2000, writer Evan Dorkin, with a team of the finest artists in the comic book industry, unleashed and out-of-continuity tale like no other, one that poked a great deal of fun (and holes) at the DC Universe. That one-shot's name was Superman and Batman: World's Funnest.
I laughed my butt off when I first read it--it has got to be one of the best comic book parodies, if only because it's a major comic book company making fun of itself. Anyway, I thought this Bat-Mite vs Mr. Mxyzptlk fight would make one heck of an animated short for the greatly missed DC Showcase shorts. So, here's how an animated version would pan out--with a script by Dorkin, Seth MacFarlane, Brian Posehn and SNL's Casey Wilson, this film would adapt the styles of the very same artists who contributed to the book:
-Mike Allred
-Brian Bolland
-Frank Cho
-Stephen DeStefano
-Dave Gibbons
-Joe Giella
-Jaime Hernandez
-Stuart Immonen
-Phil Jimenez
-Doug Mahnke
-David Mazzucchelli
-Frank Miller
-Sheldon Moldoff (or someone who can duplicate his style, since poor Shelly passed away this year)
-Glen Murakami
-Norm Rapmund
-Alex Ross (in CG format)
-Scott Shaw!
-Jay Stephens
-Ty Templeton
-Bruce Timm
-Jim Woodring
And, headlining the cast are two actors who are probably the only ones I feel could play our respective little leading men (no offense to those who voiced the characters in past media):
Gilbert Gottfried reprising the role of Mr. Mxyzptlk
Though Frank Welker voiced the character for two decades' worth of Super Friends shows, Gottfried voiced probably THE best take on Mxy (then again, the DC Animated Universe did a lot of that). Just look at this:
Squaring off against him is--
Paul Reubens reprising the role of Bat-Mite
Reubens voiced him on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and he did something more hilarious that Lou Scheimer's take in the 1977 Filmation Batman cartoon. He played Bat-Mite as what he is to Batman what Fanboy is to Freakazoid. Just look at this:
