EDITORIAL: Can The Marvel Knights Take the Cinematic Streets?

With all this talk about "team" movies and making everything darker in tone, adding the grit, and playing it brutal; why haven't the Marvel Knights been brought into the equation?

Daredevil, Black Widow, Luke Cage, Dagger, Moon Knight, and Iron Fist all chasing down The Punisher with another rogue villain at large.

It has a chance to be dark, gritty, powerful, action-packed and show a very human side of vigilantism, because Punisher is an anti-hero. A battered, bruised man being chased for enforcing a brand of justice seemed too intense by a community of other heroes sets up a strong premise.

And I'm aware that a lot of people would like solo films before this culmination, but I think for a Marvel Knights movie, it'd work better in reverse. I know that David Slade is currently developing a DD film, but I think it'd be neat to see this team work together and then see how they tick on their own later on.

After its release, based on who the fans want to see more of, throw those characters solo spin-off films.

I think the best way to bring them to the movies would be to lose the super-power aspect on the majority of the characters.

Example: Daredevil is a great fighter/boxer. Although it can be cool, we don't need to see his "point-of-view" where sound waves are illuminating his vision. Not every superhero knows Daredevil is blind, in fact before he was outed, only a small handful knew he was Matt. A third person perspective would work wonders.

The Punisher is a psychopath and a recluse. Follow the shell casings to Frank Castle's next victims. The other vigilantes would treat him like Rorschach from Watchmen.

Blade.... doesn't really need to be too heavily involved, or at all really. He had his time already - more than the comic book character deserves, really. Involving Blade would bring in a whole 'nother supernatural element that would be fine if Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider were involved, but otherwise is best left away from Spider-man, Punisher, and Daredevil.

Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher, and Spider-man would work great together, I think. I love Moon Knight (Charlie Huston is a phenomenal writer) and if you cut Khonshu down to just being a schizophrenic fantasy of Marc's, then it would fit wonderfully.

I'm not saying cut all the supernatural portions out of Marvel Knights, but don't dive straight into it. If the more grounded characters are a success, then there will be a sequel. Star Daredevil for the first film, pass the torch onto Luke Cage in the second.

I actually think that Marvel Knights should just stick with solo films. Sure it would be cool but the film would be crappy and it just wouldn't work.

I want a Moon Knight movie that never really says for sure if Spectre is actually crazy, or if Khonshu is really speaking to him.

Like, make him totally believe that Khonshu speaks to him, but when he's having conversations or hearing Khonshu's voice, just show the statue, unmoving, almost like he really is crazy. But at the same time, have some elements that lead you to believe that Khonshu may actually be real.

i don't know how to do that well, but i'm sure someone could pull it off.

@Jollem: Respectfully, it just wouldn't work or feel right. Dark characters just aren't meant to be what their doing with The Avengers.
