First off, this will have nothing to do with the 1987 movie with Dolph Lundgren. Second, some of the sillier aspects of the cartoon will be removed (e.g. Cringer talking).
As for the director of this film, I chose Guillermo del Toro. To me, he's the go to guy for a science fiction or fantasy film. And if he directed this, it would make up for the failed adaption of "At the Mountains of Madness". The movie would be similar in tone to his "Hellboy" movies while combining the awesome fight scenes of "Thor".
Anyway, here's the cast:
The Masters of the Universe:
Alexander Skarsgård as Prince Adam/He-Man: The leader of a group of heroes called the Masters of the Universe, prince of Eternia, and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. Given a magic sword by the Sorceress of Grayskull, he is transformed into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, by saying the words "By the Power of Grayskull". His cowardly pet cat, Cringer is transformed into his mighty steed, Battlecat. Very few people know that Adam and He-Man are the same person.
Reason for Casting: I really wanted Skarsgård to play Thor, and was bummed out when he didn't get the role (although Chris Hemsworth did a fantastic job as Thor). He was awesome on "Generation Kill" and brilliant in "True Blood". I also took in the fact that he's 6' 4", since I want He-Man to look big on screen.
Russell Crowe as Man-At-Arms: A master of weapons and Teela's adoptive father. He serves as a mentor for Adam and knows of his identity as He-Man. His real name is Duncan.
Reason for Casting: I mainly casted Crowe because of his roles in "Gladiator" and "Robin Hood". Plus, he is an overall great actor.
Keira Knightley as Teela: The captain of the guard and Duncan's adoptive daughter. She is childhood friends with Adam, but sees him as being lazy and cowardly (unaware of his identity as He-Man).
Reason for Casting: She's played strong woman characters before in the "Pirates" trilogy, but seeing her in "King Arthur" sealed the deal.
Cate Blanchett as the Sorceress of Castle GraySkull: One of the most wise and ancient beings in Eternia, and the Guardian of Castle Grayskull. She often takes on the form of a falcon named Zoar.
Reason for Casting: Cate is an over all great actress and would be great as the Sorceress.
Michael Fassbender as Stratos: A Birdman of Avion and one of He-Man's trusted friends. He has the ability of flight and energy blasts, and increases his speed with rockets attached to his feet.
Reason for Casting: Gerard Butler has been a fan favorite for this role, but I decided to go with Fassbender since I think he's a better actor.
Vinnie Jones as Ram Man: A stocky warrior with poor verbal skills. His primary use of fighting is using his head as a battering ram (which is protected by a steel helmet.
Reason for Casting: I think Vinnie is a good actor (he seriously needs to do another film with Guy Ritchie), and he played a character similar to him in "X-Men: The Last Stand" (a bastardized version of the Juggernaut).
Viggo Mortensen as King Randor: The stern but wise ruler of Eternia and Adam's father.
Reason for Casting: He's a fantastic actor and has played a king in "The Lord of the Rings".
Tilda Swinton as Queen Marlena: The Queen of Eternia and Adam's mother.
Reason for Casting: I took Hellsing's advice and changed my pick for Marlena. I decided on Swinton because she's a fantastic actress and gave a great performance in "Michael Clayton".
Seth MacFarlane (voice) as Orko: A trolla magician and court jester, who sometimes try to helps He-Man with his magic, but often backfires hilariously.
Reason for Casting: First off, Orko is in this cast because I like him (screw the haters). Anyway, MacFarlane is a wonderful voice actor and would be pretty damn funny as Orko.
Villains:
Ralph Fiennes as Skeletor: An evil warlord the flesh burned from his face. He seeks to capture Castle Grayskull to learn it's secrets, which would make him unstoppable and enable him to conquer Eternia.
Reason for Casting: It was mainly his role as Voldemort that convinced me to cast him.
Noomi Rapace as Evil Lyn: An evil witch who is Skeletor's second-in-command. She harnesses her magic powers from daekness.
Reason for Casting: To me, Noomi would be great as Evil Lyn.
Ron Perlman as Beastman: The savage, animalistic right hand man of Skeletor. He has control of the forces of Nature and brute strengh.
Reason for Casting: To me, a Guillermo del Toro movie isn't complete without Ron Perlman. Other than that, I chose him because of his sinister performance in "Blade II" and that he has played the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast".
Ray Stevenson as Trap-Jaw: A weapons expert with a metal jaw that can bite through anything and a cybernetic arm.
Reason for Casting: He was pretty good in "Rome" and "Outpost".
Doug Jones as Mer-Man: A fishman who can control sea life.
Reason for Casting: As I have said countless of times before, Jones is a modern day Lon Chaney Jr. He would be greta as Mer-Man.
