Hey all,
I realized it's been several months since I've posted a fancast, and recently I decided to fix that. I ended up going with a Star Wars fancast, since it's been something that I've been wanting to make for some time. I'm against the idea of remaking the original trilogy completely, so I decided to recast various characters in the prequel trilogy. I'm one of the few who doesn't hate that trilogy, but they (especially Attack Of The Clones) have a lot of flaws. If they ever decided to redo the prequels, here is a cast that I'd like to see.
Obi-Wan Kenobi - James McAvoy (
The Conspirator,
X-Men: First Class)
Typical choice, but a great one. McAvoy is one of the better actors in Hollywood right now, and I think he can play Obi-Wan very well. His performance in
The Conspirator more or less confirmed that IMO.
Others I Considered: None
Anakin Skywalker - Dane DeHaan (
Chronicle,
In Treatment)
I was originally going to go with Garrett Hedlund, but I figured it was better to use someone younger and not as well known. I still have to see
Chronicle, but from the trailers, DeHaan seems to be a pretty good actor. He's also older than he looks (he's 25, which is the perfect age for Anakin IMO), I think he would be good as Skywalker.
Others I Considered: Garrett Hedlund, Emile Hirsch
Padme Amidala - Mila Kunis (
Black Swan,
Ted)
One of the flaws in the prequel trilogy was that Padme was horribly written. And I mean horribly (horrible enough to make Natalie Portman unlikable). To start, I'd have her in her 20s in a redo of the trilogy. Kunis is a pretty good actress, I can definitely see her as the Queen of Naboo. She's also 28, three years younger than DeHaan (though, like DeHaan, Kunis can pass for 25 yrs or younger).
Others I Considered: Christina Ricci
Yoda - Andy Serkis (
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes,
Lord Of The Rings Trilogy)
Unlike other incarnations, I'd have Yoda be motion-captured instead of completely CGI'd. And who better to play him than the King of Motion Capture? Serkis knows his way around the format, he was fantastic in
Rise Of The Apes (he needed an Oscar nom).
Others I Considered: Spike Lee (JK)
Mace Windu - Wesley Snipes (
Blade Trilogy)
I wanted to go with someone who was experienced with action roles, and Snipes is very experienced. Just watch the
Blade movies and imagine Snipes with a lightsaber to see what I mean.
Others I Considered: Terry Crews, Michael Jai White
Qui Gon Jinn - Jared Harris (
Mad Men,
Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows)
This is definitely an out of the box choice, and I'm not sure if it can work well. But Harris is a good actor, and the two pictures above pretty much told me that he wouldn't be a bad choice for Jinn.
Others I Considered: Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean
C-3PO - Martin Freeman (
Sherlock,
The Hobbit)
Not sure if I really need to explain this one. When I watch the
Hobbit trailer, I can't help but imagine Freeman as 3PO. Not sure who should voice R2-D2 though.
Others I considered: Zachary Quinto
Emperor Palpatine - Colin Firth (
The King's Speech,
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
Firth is a great actor, but he hasn't had a lot of variety concerning the characters he has played. Palpatine is very different, but I think he can pull it off.
Others I Considered: Gary Oldman
Darth Maul - Scott Adkins (Stunts), Sam Witer (Voice)
Maul is probably my favorite
Star Wars villain next to Vader, and he was severely underused in
Phantom Menace. He should be the villain of an entire trilogy. Adkins is fantastic when it comes to martial arts (see
Ninja), while Witwer has done a good job voicing the character in
The Clone Wars. Put them together for a new live action version, and you got a good representation.
Others I Considered: Liam Neeson/Ray Park
General Grievous - Tom Hardy (
Inception,
Warrior)
Grievous was another underused villain in the prequel trilogy. I'd have in in at least two films, considering his potential as a threat. As for who should voice the character, I was interested in Tom Hardy after hearing him in
The Dark Knight Rises prologue/trailer (yes, I love his voice). I can imagine a similar voice used for Grievous.
Others I Considered: Gary Oldman, Crispin Glover
Jango Fett - Cillian Murphy (
Inception,
Batman Begins)
To play the father of Boba Fett, you need to be a real boss. Enter Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. Murphy's a great actor, his performance in
In Time inspired me to have him in this cast as Fett.
Others I Considered: Joe Manganiello
Well, that's my cast for a reboot of the
Star Wars prequel trilogy. As usual, comments/feedback/suggestions are always welcome.
