NOTE: This takes place from right after Jared's death (which ended part one) to the final attack by the Jokerz for the story.
Terry flew back to the Batcave, with a clearly agitated Bruce Wayne sitting at his computer screen. Wayne said “It appears that I was wrong. It looks like you are a good Batman indeed”. Terry, freaked out, asked “How do you know?!”. “I saw your every move in the suit, so I can know what you’re doing with it,” Wayne replies, “and I like how you refused to kill Jared, but had enough strength to fight him off”. Terry felt satisfied that he impressed the original Caped Crusader. “So does that mean I keep the suit?” he asked. “If you treat it well, absolutely” was Wayne’s reply.
When Terry came home that night, his mother worryingly asked where he’s been. “Just at a party with my friends” was the reply. He didn’t want to tell her that he’s Batman…yet. He then went into his room and collapsed onto his bed.
Meanwhile, in a secret lab not too far from the Wayne Enterprises building, Derek Powers is putting the final touches on a new experiment, one that would transfer DNA from one body to another. “I need a specimen to confirm that this thing will work,” Powers stated, “But who?”. He then had an idea, and quickly summoned Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze, who was one of the original Batman’s most feared enemies. Fries did not want to be used as a specimen, but was forced into it.
But before the experiment could occur, Terry/Batman crashed into the lab. “I heard there’s a new experiment brewing here,” Terry said, “and I wanna see before it blows!”. Powers, maddened by the interruption, shouted “How about some human DNA in your bat blood?!” and savagely leaped towards Batman, who knocked him into a vat of mutagenic gas. “Let’s go!” Batman shouted to Freeze, but Freeze was trapped by a pillar that fell upon him when the lab started erupting. “Just leave me!” shouted Freeze, before another pillar fell upon his head and killed him. “No!” shouted Batman, and then decided to hurry out before he would face a similar fate.
The lab exploded shortly after Batman escaped, but Powers survived…barely. He took on an entirely new body form: his cold, dark skeleton was exposed by his transparently glowing green skin. “I can’t be seen like this!” he shouted, then he decided to go by a new name - “Blight”. He then left the area, and when news hit the city that the lab was destroyed, many people, including Terry, assumed that Derek Powers was gone too. His son, Paxton, then became the new Wayne Enterprises head.
Not long afterwards, Blight managed a new lab at an empty building in the city. He summoned the Jokerz gang to the lab for a meeting on how to bring the new Batman down. “Why don’t you go rob a bank or something, hm? Just go get old Bats’ attention”. The Jokerz readily agreed, and marched to the main Gotham City bank.
“We’re gonna blow this bank down!” shouted Bonk, as the gang started invading the bank. As policemen started coming in, the Jokerz started fighting back graphically. Chucko started throwing knives at the cops (some penetrating their heads), while Ghoul popped others in the head with a pistol. Among those who were knifed was the same cop who informed Terry that his father was murdered.
In the nick of time, Batman came in and prepped to battle. “You can save your knives, because you have someone who’ll really stop you now!” he snickered. He dodged knives and bullets as he was engaged in a brutal battle with the Jokerz gang. He grabbed Woof by the leg and swung him against Ghoul and Bonk, while avoiding Dee-Dee and taking on Chucko. Batman ejected wrist blades on his wrist while Chucko still had plenty of knives. “I guess it’s you and me now, clown.” Batman said before engaging in a knife-on-wrist-blade duel. He dismembered Chucko’s right arm and threw him against a nearby truck, knocking him unconscious. The rest of the Jokerz were too weak to continue fighting, and the remaining policemen came in and arrested them. Batman went up to the cop who told him of his father’s death, and whispered “Thanks for supporting me through the most tragic time of my life. Meant a lot to me”, despite his not being able to hear. The cop had his forehead pinned by a steak knife, and his face was covered in blood. Batman then flew away, further determined to fight crime in the city.
Blight watched the TV report of what happened at the bank and was enraged. “They failed! They failed!” he exclaimed. He then determined “Guess I’ll have to take matters in my own hands!” as he prepared to search for Batman’s location. One day, he was sulking around Gotham when Batman was flying around, but he stayed hidden because he shouldn’t let people see his true self. He secretly climbs a building secluded from the rest of Gotham, and electrocuted Batman in midair from a distance. Batman collapsed onto another building, and Blight went to go see where he landed. “Looks like I got the old Bat!” he muttered.
When Blight found the building, he went on top and confronted Batman, who had trouble getting up from the fall. Blight electrified him again, and Batman cried out in pain, feeling even weaker than before. Blight went up and unmasked him, revealing the face of a teenager. “Blast it!” Blight muttered, “I’ve been trying to kill a KID of all people?! Where’s the real Batman when I want him?!”. Terry said, “He’s living in retirement”. He stood up and further stated, “I was chosen to take up his mantle”. “Ooh, I think I recognize you!”, Blight exclaimed as he further examined Terry’s face. “Terry McGinnis, I presume? Your father was a good friend, before he betrayed me,” Blight then had a very treacherous look as he revealed, “It seems like Jared did what I asked him to!”. Terry looked on in shock. He hasn’t seen until now that his father’s murder was planned by someone significant!
Terry flew in and defeated Blight in what was a very, very intense battle. During the battle, Blight said, “I’m Derek Powers, former head of Wayne Enterprises”. Terry yelled in response, “NO CROOK CAN BE HEAD OF ANYTHING LEGAL!” as he planted his fist into Blight’s dark skull. He then tripped Blight into an opening on the building, where he crashed several stories down. Terry put his mask back on and flew away.
Later, Terry flew in the Batcave and met with Bruce Wayne, with his hound Ace at his side. He removed his mask and said “You know the guy who was head of Wayne Enterprises after you?” “Derek Powers? Of course” was Wayne’s reply. “Well, it looks like he’s still alive”, Terry continued. “He has a new body with green glowing skin, with a black skeleton being exposed”. Wayne gasped as he remembered the editorial that Warren McGinnis wrote before his murder. “Powers must have fallen into a vat of mutagenic gas that he created”, he said gravely. “Mutagenic gas is known for destroying skin and being the cause of such diseases as cancer. Powers’ skin must have accepted an alternative impact.” Terry was still shocked over the incident. Wayne turned to him and said, “Are you sure that you can handle this? I don’t want to be responsible for any major injuries that you could face”. Terry turned around and placed his mask back on. As he faced the window to the Batcave, he said, “I’ve been called on to defend Gotham City from crime. I can’t stand back and let innocent people suffer, like my father did.” With that said, he started his jet pack and flew home.
The next day, Blight entered a prison cell that had the Jokerz imprisoned. “Wanna get fried?!” he yelled at the guards as he electrocuted them to a skeleton. He then unlocked the cell and let the Jokerz out. They then carefully escaped the prison, and landed in Blight’s apartment. “I’ll give you all one more chance. I know it’s hard to act as a group without Chucko, he was a good member,” Blight said in his living room. “But I know the new Bat’s human identity!” He then gave them further instructed on attacking Terry’s high school that very night.
That night, at a building in the back of the school, there are a lot of teenagers dancing with disco music to set the mood. Terry’s girlfriend, Dana, got him to dance with her. “This is fun,” she said, to which Terry replied “Absolutely” and were about to kiss, before an explosion was heard. Ghoul popped out of nowhere shooting his gas guns, when the rest of the Jokerz started beating the rest of the gang with wooden baseball bats. “Get out of here!” Terry said to Dana, who then ran away to find a place to hide. Terry dived in and started fighting the Jokerz off. “Oooh, it’s the new Bat-!” Bonk started to yell, but Terry punched him in the face to interrupt him. Everyone in the building started screaming and running around, then the Jokerz decided to get out of the area.
After everyone was gone, Terry stayed there thinking. Blight found out his identity, and now he’s trying to attack him at nearly every angle. “This bastard needs to be stopped! I can’t put my own family at risk!” He exclaimed. He then walked home, and his mother went up to him with tears in her eyes. “Oh, thank God you’re alright! What happened?!” She asked. Terry then sat down and talked to her and Matt about how the Jokerz invaded the area, and posed as a threat to nearly everyone there. That night in his bed, he decided that defeating Blight once and for all was the best thing to do, for the safety of his friends and family.
