Marvel-Freshman Casts First Avenger: Captain America

Check out the first part of my fan cast for The First Avenger: Captain America.

With Captain America official casting gearing up for filming to start in late June, I have formed some ideal actors for some of the plenty characters in the Marvel WW2 era, that could be in the actual film.

Of course Chris Evans as Captain America(Steve Rogers).

I know you hate seeing fan cast including official casting, but It just felt incomplete without them.

Anne Hathaway as Elizabeth Betsy Ross(Golden Girl).

Now I know the supposed female lead was said to be Peggy Carter, but I have reason to believe she won't be the only female in the film. I was told by an anonymous source the Betsy Ross would be in the film. And if my memory serves me right, either Deadline or THR included the character's name, while Marvel was on the search.

The reason I chose her is because this film needs more star power, and with the great casting of Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Natalie Portman, and Scarlett Johansson, in the other films, Hathaway fits perfectly. Shes been a period pieces further back than WW2, so I'm sure she could work in the 40s era. And she was gonna be Black Cat in Spider-man 4, so if her character sees any action, she'll manage. Plus I hear her and Chris Evans are good friends.

Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter

Charlie Hunnam as James Falsworth(Union Jack)

I'm still uncertain which "invaders" will make an appearance in the film, but Union Jack is one of the easiest to translate to film. Charlie Hunnam, born in Newcastle, England, UK, is perfect for Union Jack. Hes more known for his recent series "Sons of Anarchy".

You may not remember, but Charlie publicly stated that he had screen-tested for Thor. So if he was willing to take a job as big as Thor, he would have no problem doing a role like this.

Hes also familiar with period pieces, an the period piece movie he did, just so happened to be set in London, UK, which Captain America director said most of Captain America's film will take place. That period piece film he did, also starred Anne Hathaway which is who I included in this fan cast.

Kiefer Sutherland as General Chester Philips

General Chester Philips is the man who founded Steve Rogers for Operation: Rebirth. Though his role may be minor, the importance of the role gives it the ability to have known actor portray him. And Kiefer Sutherland would be prefect.

If you've ever seen the animated film, Monsters Vs Aliens, you would know that Sutherland portrayed toe role of a General. What really convinced me was the very different voice he used, that gave you the feeling of an actual commanding General. Though he was born in the UK, and the fact that Marvel has hired Americans playing Russians, why can't they get a Canadian to play an American.

Anthony Mackie as Falcon(Sam Wilson)

It is uncertain whether or not there will be black characters in the film at all, but with Falcon being mainstream comics' first African American superhero, he should definitely have a minor role. Of course that would include a small subplot, him being black, but it won't hurt.

Anthony Mackie is truly one of my favorite actors. He can easily be considered a known, winning best supporting actor for his recent film, The Hurt Locker. The Hurt Locker includes very intense war action, that would be in Captain America's film. So Anthony would be familiar with the sequences.

If they do include falcon, he may be nothing but a soldier, powerless. But I can see them updating the character, as a soldier who Captain America crosses paths with. He could be considered a pilot due his love of flight & planes, and he helps Steve Rogers fly across whatever to get to wherever in one of his planes. Just a little thought in my head.

Anthony also has appeared in a period piece that was very close to this film's time. Plus I know he and Chris Evans would work great off of each other.

Sebastian Stan as James Bucky Barnes

Donald Sutherland as Dr. Joseph Reinstein code-named Abraham Erskine

Other than the fact that he isn't American, I think he is perfect. And I had intentions for him for this role, not knowing he was Kiefer's father. Weird. He has also worked with Chris Evans too.

Tell me what you really think so far. I'm still assembling the other characters.

DONE. Seeing as how don't think Namor is gonna make it to the film, I don't really want to include him. Sorry. I just find him so unrealistic for this film.

Nice one. I like this.

I can see all of these actors/actresses in their respective roles, good work Freshman.

The only one I can say anything negative about is Hunnam as Union Jack, but only because he's my Iron Fist. He'd do a damn good job as UJ though.

Really good job man, I'm happy with this entire cast. But how is Namor un-realistic? This is set in the Marvel-Universe man! Thor exsists within Cap's universe as does Hulk and Iron Man etc...Namor will fit quite nicley and if the Invaders are making an appearence then it wouldn't be the same without Namor.
DCMarvelFreshman
DCMarvelFreshman - 4/15/2010, 5:27 PM
@Ryden I could be wrong if the film includes other odd super enhanced heroes. But from what we know so far, Namor's background story just seems very distant. An underwater alien-type prince.

The only way I can see Namor, is as a regular guy in the film, whose really good at swimming, and doesn't know why.

Then they could give him his own film, with him exploring his unknown past, and finds a mythical world underwater. I can really see that, and would be happy.

i hope they'll wait for a Cap sequel to introduce Sam Wilson. i'd prefer a present day Falcon and i think it would get too cheesy if you suddenly had multiple characters who didn't age over the course of sixty years.

great cast btw!!!!!
keep an eye out for Sensational Spider-man Part IV coming soon!!!!
DCMarvelFreshman
DCMarvelFreshman - 4/15/2010, 5:35 PM
@Wadey09, I thought about that too. It would be cool if all of the Invaders were injected with an unstable serum. Then in the end of the film, have Captain America's body disappear in the water.

Then in a Cap sequel, he finds out more about what happened to his war buddies, and he finds out that the government had to get rid of the Invaders because of some reason that involved the unstable serum.

Then later Steve finds out that SHIELD has reserved them for past testing. And they resurrect as Captain America did. And are updated somehow. I'm working on a story for this too.

@MF

Nice work dude, that's some damn fine casting!

One thing tho, what do you mean by:

"Of course that would include a small subplot, him being black, but it won't hurt."

I'm not offended or anything, i just don't get what you mean...
DCMarvelFreshman
DCMarvelFreshman - 4/15/2010, 7:00 PM
It would be odd to get offended cause I'm black too, lol. But what I was saying was racism was obviously a big deal back then, so you can't really ignore it, especially having Falcon be a supporting character. So I guess it would have to be some sort of subplot, for Cap and the other soldiers/Invaders, with them getting used to each other.

MF: Great cast man! I never considered Mackie for a role like Falcon but that is definitely the highlight of this cast for me - brilliant choice! (however, I'd rather save him for the Cap movies that will be set in the present!) You should visit "Fan Fic" more often! I dont think I've ever had a comment from you on one of my casts and I've done 70 of them now, lol! ;D

@Freshman- But Namor knows he's the prince that's why he's so arrogant and against the land-dwellers....isn't swimming really good and discovering you have superpowers from birth sound a bit too like PERCY JACKSON?

What about:

1. The senior Union Jack (There are two Falsworths - Father & Son)
2. Red Skull
3. Baron Zemo
4. Master Man
5. Howard Stark - Yes, Tony's Dad who fought the Nazis in WW-2. It would be interesting to bring him in
