This Part Three of my Metal Gear Solid Movie Fan Cast, focusing on the third game, Snake Eater.
Let's get this show on the road.
JACK/NAKED SNAKE/BIG BOSS
The genetic propagator of Solid, Liquid and Solidus Snakes, Naked Snake was simply a soldier sent out to do his duties for his country and government. When he’s forced to have to face his mentor and teacher, The Boss, he’s forced to question everything he's believed in...
Who Should Play Him: Whoever is playing Solid Snake. In this case, either Christian Bale, Michael Trucco or Sam Worthington.
WHY: Well, Naked Snake looks exactly like Solid Snake, so it makes sense to cast the same guy, right?
EVA
An American spy who defected to the USSR, sent to help Naked Snake during Operation Snake Eater. She's a double agent who is able to get close with both Naked Snake and Colonel Volgin, and play both sides.
Who Should Play Her: Ali Larter
WHY: Aside from her obvious physical attributes, Ali is actually a good actress. She can play conflicted, broken and badass all at once.
THE BOSS
Naked Snake's mentor, and a war hero who led the Cobra Unit, a multinational team of elite Supernatural Warriors who practically won World War II for the Allies. In the events of Metal Gear Solid 3, she has apparently defected to the Soviet Union with her fellow Cobras.
Who Should Play Her: Cate Blanchett
WHY: Blanchett is almost perfect for this - amazing actress who can play The Boss' strong attributes, as well as her emotional torment.
VOLGIN
A GRU Colonel nicknamed "Thunderbolt" and the primary antagonist of Metal Gear Solid 3, seeking to claim the Philosopher's Legacy by merit of his father being entrusted with it during World War II. He's sadistic, cruel and his greatest ambition is to kick off World War III using the Shagohod tank to launch nuclear missiles at America.
Who Should Play Him: Dolph Lundgren
WHY: Come on, he's perfect! Big, tough, intimidating, and Russian too! I wouldn't be surprised if they based Volgin’s character design off of Lundgren.
MAJOR OCELOT
Despite his very young age, Major Ocelot has achieved his ranking thanks to his ruthless nature and his amazing skills with handling guns. He later becomes obsessed with Naked Snake, wishing to defeat him in combat. Despite his service to Volgin, he may be having his own agendas too.
Who Should play Him: Cam Gigandet
WHY: Gigandet has the looks, not to mention he’s proven that he’s got what it takes to last in the biz. He can play ruthless and is no stranger to action and fighting too.
THE PAIN
A member of the Cobra Unit, who can speak with hornets, and raises them in his own body as "bullet bees." He wears a mask due to being horrifically scarred from numerous hornet stings.
Who Should Play Him: Mark Strong
WHY: Strong has demonstrated that he can play great villains, and even sounds like The Pain too.
THE FEAR
The second member of the Cobra Unit Naked Snake faces. He is double-jointed and able to crawl on walls. His freakish appearance is almost reptilian, reinforced by his forked tongue and his usage of venoms to incapacitate his enemies.
Who Should Play Him: Robert Knepper
WHY: Anyone who's seen Knepper in "Prison Break" would agree that he's ace at playing creepy, and it doesn't hurt that he’s got a sort of reptilian look to himself as well.
THE END
Also known as “the father of modern sniping,” The End is over 100 years old, but is no slouch or pushover. A veteran of numerous wars, he’s rumored to not having to use a sniper, and is also apparently photosynthetic.
Who Should Play Him: Christopher Lee
WHY: Lee is pretty old, but he’s also proven he can be pretty badass too.
THE FURY
A former Russian astronaut, he was sent up into space. However, an accident occurred during his rocket’s re-entry. He became obsessed with his vision of the earth engulfed in flames, and became a pyromaniac.
Who Should Play Him: Alfred Molina
WHY: Well, I’m just throwing something a little random, but he does sound a lot like The Fury, doesn’t he?
THE SORROW
This member of the Cobra Unit was born a spirit medium, able to sense the spirits of dead soldiers after a battle. He is able to summon the dead and absorb their abilities. He was also known for being very close with The Boss, and she can still seemingly feel his presence.
Who Should Play Him: Alan Rickman
WHY: He’s the right age, and can definitely play the melancholy behind The Sorrow’s character.
MAJOR ZERO
Snake’s commanding officer during the mission, he’s also been with the British SAS, and is also a fan of the James Bond films. In time, he helps to establish FoxHound with Big Boss.
Who Should Play Him: Sean Bean
WHY: I’ve seen Bean suggested for Liquid Snake, but honestly, he’s really starting to look his age these days. But he could be great for Zero, and being an actual Brit and having been in a Bond film helps his case too.
PARA-MEDIC
Named as a combination of "parachute" and "medic," Para-Medic is Naked Snake's medical advisor and wildlife analyst. She is a kind person, always interested in new things. She also loves movies, and suggests many of the classics to Snake.
Who Should Play Her: Sarah Wayne Callies
WHY: Another "Prison Break" alum? Well, Callies not only looks like Para-Medic, she even sounds like her too. Plus she's already played a cute doctor very well.
SIGINT
Named for "Signal Intelligence," SIGINT is the team's tech expert. He hopes to break barriers in his position and with his status as a black man (this being the mid-60s and all that). He's a bit of a jokester too.
Who Should Play Him: Dave Chappelle
WHY: Chappelle is a natural comedian, and he can certainly pull off some funny lines with Naked Snake, not to mention he can inject some much needed comic relief to the movie.
SOKOLOV
A Soviet scientist who became frightened of his own creations, Sokolov tried to defect to the US, but was captured again and forced to complete his latest project - a nuclear missile launching tank called the Shagohod. The entire point of the story is rescuing him before the tank is completed and avert a nuclear catastrophe.
Who Should Play Him: Stephen Tobolowsky
WHY: If you’ve seen his work on TV, Tobolowsky has shown that he's great at playing brainy characters. Plus he looks a lot like Sokolov too.
And in case you're curious, here's the last two parts.
