With the kick-off of filming Marc Webb's sequel to last year’s summer blockbuster/let-down THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, there has been much speculation on story lines, who may be playing who and many other things as such. With Webb giving us daily glimpses of the film coming together, here is my speculation on the film and what might be of it.
First off, the Sinister Six has been mentioned by many, a team consisting of the villian’s that have appeared in the first instalment and that will be appearing in the second. I personally don’t see this happening. If this was to occur in the finale of the series? Sure, I understand that because the villains have time to take form and become a threat to Peter Parker’s life. The villains that are possible to appear in this so far are the Lizard, bringing the return of Connors; Electro, the newbie; Rhino, the other newbie; Venom, the possible incarnation played by Harry Osborn; Green Goblin, who is said to have been pulling all the strings in the series; The Vulture OR The Hobgoblin, whomever Colm Foere is playing, who I believe is Rodrick Kingsley. But who else? See, with all the possible characters this may not even be possible to occur.
Following, the theory of Electro and Rhino being the main villains, run by the Green Goblin who will end up being the main antagonist. I also find this as a horrible idea. As seen what Spider-Man 3 had done with cramming all these villains in, only to wait for the best one to have the least screen time. This is where that theory also goes down the hole. Norman Osborn is a sharp and complicated character that needs to evolve before showing his true face ala the Goblin.
Last but not least, my theory. I am guessing that Paul Giamatti’s Rhino character and Jamie Foxx’s Electro will be the minor antagonists (I know this contradicts my previous point in some ways, but hear me out). The two will play out the whole movie as if it’s their own, if you have seen the VENOM SAGA, if you have seen Spider-Man The Animated Series 1990’), then you will understand this. Replace the Shocker with Electro and Eddie Brock with Harry Osborn having him become Venom, as previously speculated. Peter will discover the symbiote at the beginning of the film having wore in the whole movie until the middle. Harry will discover it as Eddie normally would and move from his well developed Harry character to Venom. This will lead to his solo movie which will show his side of the story during his times as Venom in TASM2. Peter and him will battle it out which will also be shown in the Venom movie. Osborn will keep the symbiote helping Spider-Man fight Carnage in his solo movie. Back to Colm Foere’s character. I have heard that he will play either Adrian Toomes, Norman Osborn or J. Jonah Jameson. I believe he will play Rodrick Kingsley as previously stated. He looks just like him and I think we need Hobgoblin before Green Goblin, then Green Goblin killing him off in the third instalment, to show just how crazy he can be.
