For the record, I just want to say I am a huge fan for Marc Webb's
The Amazing Spider-Man. I think it will fill in a lot of gaps left in the original series, and I cannot wait to see it! With that said, this is my fancast for a Spider-Man film that I've had in my head for a while now. So let's begin!
Spider-Man Family
Reason For Casting: Zac Efron may seem like an odd choice, but I think he would be fantastic as Spider-Man. He has the perfect balance of comedy and drama that the ol’ webhead needs. His roles in
17 Again and
Charlie St. Cloud convinced me he would be great as Spider-Man.
Reason For Casting: Debbie Reynolds is an iconic actress, appearing in films such as
The Unsinkable Molly Brown and
The Rat Race. She is a wonderful actress who would do wonders for the role of Aunt May. I think she would be able to do the character real justice.
Reason For Casting: I don’t think I’ve seen him cast in this particular role, and I don’t know why. Harvey Keitel is a very powerful actor who would be able to be both a mentor to Peter as well as a very believable source of inspiration for Spider-Man. His film credits include
Reservoir Dogs,
National Treasure, and
Taxi Driver.
Reason For Casting: Meaghan Jette Martin is a relatively unknown actress who has been in a few television shows such as
House as well as starring in the television series
10 Things I Hate About You. She is a quality actress who I think has great potential, and could reach that potential as Gwen Stacy.
Reason For Casting: Another pretty unknown actress, she is most recognizable from her role in
The Tudors. I think she has what it takes to play Mary Jane Watson. She is mesmerizing in everything she does and has a tough side to her usually more innocent approach, something I think she would have in common with MJ.
Spider-Man Villains
Reason For Casting: While not the most original choice, I do believe in Jason Isaacs and his abilities. Best known for playing villains, such as Lucius Malfoy in most of the
Harry Potter films, as well as the iconic Captain James Hook in
Peter Pan, he would be both an excellent Norman Osborn as well as a downright scary Green Goblin.
Reason For Casting: While this may seem like an odd choice, I think he would be able to pull off the disappointing son of Norman quite well. His credits include
Little Miss Sunshine and
Cowboys and Aliens. He is a fantastic actor with a great range of skills.
Reasons For Casting: Another
Harry Potter alumni, he has also appeared in Tim Burton’s film
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, as well as portraying Winston Churchill in
The King’s Speech. He has a great quality of regality and arrogance that I think would suit the character of Doctor Octopus.
Reason For Casting: Charles Dance is mostly known for his stage roles, however he has made his way into the cinema world more often these days. Today he appears in the HBO television series
Game of Thrones.
Reason For Casting: Greg Kinnear is a very underrated actor who has appeared in
Little Miss Sunshine,
As Good As It Gets, and
Flash of Genius. He has a quiet intensity about him that I think would go well with the obsessive Curt Connors as well as the mad-driven Lizard.
Reason For Casting: Chameleon is one of my more favorite villains and I would love to see him on the big screen. Paul Bettany is a terrific actor, and while not the most original pick, I think he would be perfect. He has appeared in the films
A Knight’s Tale,
Priest,
A Beautiful Mind, and
The Da Vinci Code.
Reason For Casting: Liam McIntyre is a pretty solid actor, recently taking over the role of Spartacus in
Spartacus: Vengeance. Liam McIntyre is a self-proclaimed “gladiator” and I think he could really channel the arrogance and showmanship that goes with being a gladiator into Venom and Eddie Brock.
Reason For Casting: Michael Pitt first came to my attention when he began co-starring in the television show
Boardwalk Empire. He has a menacing ability about him that would be perfect for Carnage.
Reason For Casting: Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a dynamite actor, one that is brimming with intensity and charisma, something essential for Kraven, the hunter. His film roles include the Comedian in Zack Snyder’s
Watchmen, and
The Losers. He is wildly talented and would have no problem becoming the big game hunter.
Reason For Casting: Josh Holloway is a brilliant actor best known for his role as Sawyer in
Lost. He can easily pull off of a street thug gone hi-tech, but Shocker is more than that. I think that Josh Holloway can put layers onto this seemingly simple villain.
Reason For Casting: Kevin Dillon is best known for his role as Johnny Drama in the hit HBO television show
Entourage. While he mostly known for comedy – as in the show
How To Be A Gentleman, he has made his own work in the more dramatic areas, like in
Poseidon.
Reason For Casting: Aidan Turner appears in the British television show
Being Human. Other than that, he will be appearing in the two-part series of
The Hobbit as Kili. He is a mesmerizing actor, and I could see him doing great things with the role of a fashion designer gone crazy as the new goblin.
Reason For Casting: I always imagined Quentin Beck as a lonely, isolated young man who works hard at special effects. For that role I chose Matthew Goode, someone who is no stranger to the comic book movie world, having been in
Watchmen. He would also be my ideal Scarecrow in a Batman reboot, so I feel like he would be a good Mysterio as well.
Reason For Casting: While he may be pretty recognizable from his roles in the comedy movies
Fired Up! and
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, he plays a pretty riveting character on
NCIS: Los Angeles. I think he would be able to give the ironic humor that goes with Electro.
Reason For Casting: Scorpion is a character I feel who could be taken too cartoonish or bloated if in the wrong hands. Getting a serious actor like Sam Witwer, who has credits in the American
Being Human series as well as Doomsday in
Smallville, will allow Scorpion to be taken more seriously. Sam Witwer can definitely give a stirring performance as Mac Gargan.
Reason For Casting: Fans will know him from the films
300 and
Sherlock Holmes. Robert Maillet is a decent enough actor, who given experience could do wonders for the role, taking Rhino a step further from just a rambling Neanderthal in a rhino suit.
Reason For Casting: Goran Visnjic has been in television shows, such as
ER as well as movies like
Ice Age,
Committed, and
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I do, however, firmly believe that if Morbius makes an on-screen appearance it should be in a Blade film, either way though, Goran Visnjic would give a frightening performance.
Reason For Casting: I’ve always enjoyed Hydro-Man as a villain and I think just visually he would be awesome to see on the big screen. Travis Van Winkle has been in
Friday the 13th as well as
Accepted. He is a quality actor who would be great as the jealous driven typhoon titan.
Spider-Man Supporting Characters
Reason For Casting: Teresa Palmer is a fantastic actress, most recently appearing in
Take Me Home Tonight,
I Am Number Four, and
Bedtime Stories. She would be great not only as the rich heiress Felicia Hardy, but also as the sexy, mysterious Black Cat.
Reason For Casting: Other than looking almost identical to the character himself, Mark Harmon is an accomplished actor, and is most recognizable from the hit show
NCIS. He is hard as steel, but with a softer side that I think would be perfect when playing the New York City cop as well as Gwen Stacy’s father.
Reason For Casting – First Pick: John C. McGinley has made a few appearances in films such as
Wall Street,
Platoon, and
Office Space. However, he is most recognizable for his role as Dr. Cox on the show
Scrubs. I think he would make a phenomenal J. Jonah Jameson, if he channels the Dr. Cox in him.
Reason For Casting – Second Pick: I was watching
That ‘70’s Show the other day and I couldn’t help but think he would make a stellar JJJ. He has a gruff, hardened attitude that I think would be great for J. Jonah Jameson.
Reason For Casting: The Robbie Robertson portrayed in Sam Raimi’s films seemed to be lacking the same kind of connection he and Peter had in the comics. Other than one quick awkward glance in
Spider-Man 2 there is no real mention of Robbie and Spider-Man’s relationship either. I think Richard Roundtree – of the
Shaft fame – would be great if they do expand on this relationship. He is a great actor who can play a sensible father as well as a good businessman.
Reason For Casting: She has been in films such as
Scooby-Doo and its sequel,
Grandma’s Boy, and the short-lived but fantastic series
Freaks and Geeks. She would be great as the bright assistant to JJJ.
Reason For Casting: Aubrey Plaza has a great deadpan sense of humor as well as being a talented actress. She is most well known for her roles in
Funny People and
Parks and Recreation.
Reason For Casting: I would love to see Flash Thompson featured more in the films, more to show the irony of his love for Spider-Man and his hatred for Peter Parker. Jesse Plemons has been in
Friday Night Lights as well as having a role in
Paul. He’s a good actor who would be able to pull of the cocky jock real well.
Spider-Man Cameos
Reason For Casting: Dr. Strange is a great character to have to show up for a little bit in these films, offer advice and then disappear. Joseph Fiennes is one of my only choices for the Sorcerer Supreme, a great actor in the films
Enemy At The Gates and
Running With Scissors.
Reason For Casting: Daredevil is one of Spider-Man’s closest friends in the Marvel Comic Universe. Wentworth Miller is best known for his role in the Fox television series
Prison Break. he is an intense actor who would be able to play a very convincing Matt Murdock.
