KEYSTONE
The Flash runs through the city. Suddenly, he hears a strange sound, (not unlike a portal gun) and falls into the ground. Onto a rooftop. He looks around.

Flash: “What the hell?”
He looks at a large square, straight up, on the roof. It has uneven swirls, moving in all directions on it. Barry can faintly make out his reflection-
WHAM!
A fist hits the back of his head. He quickly turns around, and dodges another punch, but is hit by a second, which hits his gut.
Flash: “Fake, nice. What’s your name? Mr. Bad Fashion Sense?”
A man wearing an orange body suit, with a green belt and cowl, is staring at Flash. His fist’s are clenched, and is breathing heavily. His belt has a holster, with a gun.
Flash: “Um...what’s your name? Mr. Bad Fashion Sense? Okay, what’s your name?”
“I’m...uh...the Mirror Master!”
Flash: “The...? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!”
He bent down, and wiped a tear from his eye. Flash looked up at the man again.
Flash: “Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! That’s hilarious! What’s your name?”
The man ran towards Flash, raising his fist. He brought it down, and the Flash crouched, and rolled out of the way. He got back to his feet, and uppercutted the man. He ran forward as the man was in mid-air, and slammed his fist into the man’s face. Barry stopped, grabbed the man’s leg, and threw him to the other side of the rooftop.
Flash: “Okay, who are you?”
MM: “Why the hell would I tell you?”
Flash: Well, for starters, I can punch you 10 times in one second. Let me guess, you killed that man.”
MM: “I kill a lot of men.”
Flash: “You know. The one who got blown up from the inside.”
MM: “That happens a lot. I usually clean it up.”
Flash: “That’s great. Are you a mercenary? Who sent you?”
MM: “I can’t tell you that.”
Flash: “Then tell me your damn name!”
MM: “Well, it’s-”
The man kicked Flash’s crotch, got up, and punched him. The man grabbed Flash’s back, and pulled him towards the ‘portal’, throwing him in. Flash landed on the road. He got up, and looked for the man. He was gone. Flash ran away.

KEYSTONE UNIVERSITY
Barry has goggles on, and is holding two test tubes. His laptop is open. It makes a noise.

Barry clicks on a program, and a man comes on screen. He has brown hair, blue eyes, and is sweating, while smiling. Barry returns to his experiment.
Barry: “Hi Ray.”
Ray: “I could have found it.”
Barry: “Found what?”
Ray: “I think you know.”
Barry: “Wait...is this about the belt?”
Ray: “It is. Barry I could have found the key to the belt.”
Barry: “that’s amazing! What is it?”
Ray: I can’t tell you. I, well, I just wanted you to know. I’m gonna go now.”
Barry: “Okay. Good luck.”
Ray: “Thanks.”
Barry continues his experiment.

KEYSTONE
The man is talking on his phone, in his apartment.

“I didn’t get him. Yes, I met him. I fought him. Yes, I stood a chance. Look, I want to know about him. You don’t know anything. Okay. How badly do you need this guy? Dead? You never said that he should be dead. I was holding back. Damn it. Don’t worry, you won’t find a corpse.”

That Night

Barry has on a collared shirt, and dress pants. He’s in a restaurant, a plate in front of him. He’s frowning.

Iris walks in, wearing normal clothes, carrying a notepad. Barry signals for her.
Barry: “You actually showed up. I thought I was late.”
Iris: “Sorry. Why are you all dressed up?”
Barry: “I thought...”
Iris: “Oh, you thought...no. No, this isn’t a date, Mr. Allen.”
Barry: “This...okay.”
Iris: “I am only here, because I want questions answered on the body.”
Barry: “Oh, the body. I don’t know anything more than you do.”
Iris: “Oh. Any...theories?”
Barry: “Theories. Okay, theories...got it. I believe that the man was ripped apart by energy, as there were no elements of weaponry, or DNA. Mr. James Jesse, on the other hand, thinks it was a hero.”
Iris: “Vigilante?”
Barry: “That’s what I meant.”
Iris wrote something down.
Barry: “Are you...”
Iris: “Thank you, Mr. Allen.”
She got up, and walked away. Barry sat there, a blank stare on his face. A waiter came over, with the bill.
Barry: “Nice.”

The Next Day

Flash runs down a street. He hears a woman scream. He runs in that direction.

A man in a hoodie has Iris at gunpoint.
Mugger: “Don’t scream again, okay? Now, wallet, watch, phone, purse, everything.”
Iris throws her purse on the ground.
Mugger: “Is it all there?”
Iris: “It is. Don’t shoot me.”
Mugger: “Yeah, about that...”
He points the gun at her. A red flash goes by, and the gun is gone.
Mugger: “Oh no. It’s him. Oh my god, no! Where is he?”
Flash: “Um...excuse me?”
He taps the muggers shoulders, and zooms to the other side of him as he turns around.
Mugger: “Where are you?”
Flash: “Are you blind?”
He does it again.
Flash: “I’m right here.”
The mugger turns around, and he punches him. He then runs to his side, and slams him into a wall. He punches the mugger again, and turns to Iris.
Iris: “Thanks. I might have to reconsider my views on vigilantes.”
Flash: “Heroes?”
Iris: “Wait...Ba-”
He was gone.

BARRY’S HOUSE
Flash laid on Barry’s bed, looking at the ceiling. He closed his eyes, and his head sunk into the pillow. He smiled.

KEYSTONE
The man opens his apartment door. It’s Jesse, holding a briefcase.

“What do you want?
Jesse: “Well, Scudder, that’s your name, right? Sam Scudder?”
Scudder: “Yeah. What the hell do you want?”
Jesse: “Did you learn anything from the Flash?”
Scudder: “I got that recording, like you asked me.”
He got a USB, and tossed it to Jesse.
Scudder: “Got our little conversation on that thing.”
Jesse: “Thanks. You don’t mind if I check it, do you?”
Scudder: “Not at all.”
Jesse put the USB into a laptop, and listened to the sound bytes. He smiled.
Scudder: “So?”
Jesse: “Take this briefcase. You’ll find 5,000 dollars, and some reports on the Flash.”
Scudder: “Thanks.”
He smiled, as Jesse walked out of the apartment.

KEYSTONE UNIVERSITY
Barry walks through the university halls. His hands are in his lab coat’s pockets.

He walks into an office.
Barry: “Is Professor Garrick here?”
“Right here.”
An old man, in a collared shirt, walks to Barry.
Barry: “I have a question.”
Garrick: “About?”
Barry: “Travel through two spots in separate areas.”
Garrick: “Portals?”
Barry: “Well...yeah.”
Garrick: “Well, I don’t think anyone has completed it yet. I was working on one device like it, a gun, but, it was stolen.”
Barry: “Did you try to recover it?”
Garrick: “Of course I did. The police never found it.”
Barry: “Did you try to recreate it?”
Garrick: “No. It required an element I couldn’t possibly get back.”
Barry: “Okay. Do you have the blueprints?”
Garrick: “Why?”
Barry: “I’d like to see the design. Possibly redesign it, see if there’s another element that can make it work.”
Garrick: “I’ll get them.”
He walked to his desk, and opened a drawer. He pulled out a blueprint, and handed it to Barry.
Garrick: “Here. Good luck.”
Barry: “Thanks.”
He walked out of the room. Garrick sits at his desk, with a sign that reads:
‘Jay Garrick’

THE KEYSTONE NEWS
Iris West is typing away at a laptop. She stops, and thinks.

Iris: “No. He can’t be. It must have been a coincidence. It had to be. Just, one big coincidence. But saying exactly what I said, only, the other way around. No, it can’t be a coincidence. But...do I ask him? No. Or should I? What the hell.”
She picks up her cell phone, and dials a number.

BARRY’S HOUSE
Barry is staring at the blueprints. His phone rings. He answers.

Barry: “Hello?”
Iris: “Oh hi. Barry, I need to ask you something.”
His eyes widen.
Barry: “Um...what?”
Iris: “Y-the Flash, he...well...said something, and it reminded me of you.”
Barry: “It did?”
He was talking through clenched teeth.
Iris: “Well, yes.”
Barry: “What’s your point?”
He wasn’t blinking.
Iris: “Don’t judge me based on this question, and please don’t think I’m stupid, but...Barry, are you the Flash.”
He took in the words, and almost instantly, burst out laughing.
Barry: “Oh, am...am I-ha ha ha ha ha!!! Oh man, oh god, Iris, why the hell would I be a superhero. And why would I have super-speed? Some crazy lab accident? Oh god. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!”
Iris: “Oh. I’m...I’m sorry. I should have realized how stupid that was. Bye.”
Barry: “Wait! Would you want to maybe-”
She had hung up. Barry closed his phone, and slammed his head against a wall.

The Next Day

KEYSTONE
Flash zooms down A street. He hears a strange sound, and narrowly dodges a portal.

Flash: “Take that-”
Another one opens in front of him, and he zooms through, to a rooftop. Suddenly, he’s punched, into the portal.
Flash: “-sucker.”
Mirror Master appears behind him, coming through another portal. Flash pushes himself off the ground, and punches him. He shoots at Flash, creating portals everywhere. Soon, him and Flash are surrounded by them. Mirror Master smiles, and runs through one portal. Flash looks at each of the portals. Mirror Master lunges at Flash from behind. He lads on his back, and starts choking him. He throws him off, and he tumbles into another portal. Flash breathes, and looks around again. Mirror Master runs at Flash from behind. Flash turns around, grabs his shoulders, and tosses him into another mirror. Flash runs after him. Mirror Master runs out of one mirror, and sees the Flash is gone. He smiles, and shoots each of the portals, closing them.

Scudder is in his apartment. He’s holding his gun, when he hears someone buzz in.

Scudder: “Jesse?”
“It is.”
Scudder: Come in.”
Jesse walked into the apartment, holding a briefcase.
Scudder: “Before you ask, yes, I killed him.”
Jesse: “Body?”
Scudder: “There isn’t one.”
Jesse: “How do I know you killed him?”
Scudder: “Give me the briefcase.”
Jesse: “Why would I do that?”
Scudder pulls out the gun seen on the Mirror Master.
Jesse: “Don’t.”
Scudder shoots, and Jessie rolls out of the way. A portal opens, and Flash runs out, slamming into Scudder. They drop to the floor. Jesse pulls out a gun, and points it at them both.
Jesse: “Don’t make me shoot.”
Flash: “You do realize that I’m a good guy.”
Jesse: “You’re a vigilante.”
Flash: “Gotham has vigilantes. Now, I’m just going to get up, hands behind my head, and...”
He dashed away. Scudder stared. Jesse pointed the gun at Scudder.
Jesse: “Get up.”
Scudder: “Definitely.”
Jesse: “Get up.”
Scudder: “Okay, okay. Jeez.”
Jesse: “As of now, you work for me, and the government. Permanently.”
