James Gunn Debunks Recent GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Casting News

Yesterday we reported that Zach Levi and Jim Sturgess were the favorites to win the role of Star Lord in James Gunn's GOTG. But now the director has sent out the following Tweet, plainly stating that this recent casting report from Variety was "inaccurate"..

Fans worried that Marvel were going to feature the same actor in two different superhero roles in their cinematic universe can most likely breath a sigh of relief. According to Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn, Variety's recent report stating that Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi (who will also play Fandral in Thor: The Dark World) were the front-runners for the lead role of Star Lord might not have been entirely accurate..

You will note that he does say ALMOST everything. Could this mean that one of those actors is actually up for the role, or is he referring to something else? Variety's report also mentions a mysterious third actor who is also in contention, so perhaps that's the part that is true? Gunn is currently being quizzed by all and sundry on Twitter so if he lets anything else slip we'll update.
