EXCLUSIVE - RUMOR DEBUNKED: Director David Yates NOT Offered Fantastic Four

Despite wide-spread rumors claiming that he was one of three directors in contention to direct 20th Century Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four, David Yates states categorically that he has not had any discussions with anyone about the project.

“And to tell you the truth,” Yates, who has recently wrapped Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, explains in an exclusive interview, “I’ve no interest in doing Fantastic Four, frankly, and there have been no discussions about it. I think more than anything after Potter, I need a bit of a break. And there are two or three things I really like a lot that would come before anything else. Even though they’re not announced, there are a few things that I really, really like a lot that I’m keeping under my hat to make sure they’re cooking. So my schedule wouldn’t allow it anyway, but, again, I haven’t had any discussions with anyone.”

J. J. Abrams should direct it with Billy Crudup or Hugh Laurie as Reed, January Jones as Susan Storm and Christoph Waltz as Dr. Doom voice. And that all on Marvel not [frick]ing FOX!

Nice one Ed. Not really bothered about this reboot, but I would pay attention if a director I liked stepped up.

Yet another FF rumour debunked and I'm not in the least bit surprised. Great scoop Ed - I've never thought that the Potter movies were anywhere near as good as the books and was very unimpressed by the ones that Yates has done so I'm really pleased with this bit of news.

This made my day. I was worried about him getting his grubby hands on the F4.

They`ll offer the director chair to Chris Evans or Ryan Reynolds, also the roles of Human Torch and Dr. Doom.

I just can't bring myself to get interested in FF. I don't know why but I never have been fond of anything related to them.

HAWKS: I've never been a huge FF fan either but check out Mark Waid and the late, great Mike Weiringo's run on the title from a few years back. It's action packed, hilarious and at one point even made me cry...it's probably the greatest run on the characters EVER in fact. :)

JoshW@ great call! listen to him hawks. "Unthinkable" and the entire run were great. i think it was one of the last times Reed was really likable.

When was it said he was offer the role? Only thing I found on this site was this

Though casting for a summer blockbuster film usually takes place once a director has signed onto the project, it is not a rarity. Fox's new Fantastic Four movie franchise seems be to falling into this category, with actors already being linked to the five main roles. But how far away is the studio from signing a director? According to my sources at Fox, it shouldn't be long before one of their prospective candidates is given an offer. I've learned that Joe Carnahan, David Yates and James McTeigue are among those on the short list to helm the film.

Is that it?

Ahh, he was the best choice out of all the directors. Damnit Fox . . . than again its Yates who doesn't want to do it; I guess its understandable that he needs a break after making those Harry Potter movie.

@deadpool72 Let us all cross our fingers for Abrams as director
