In the past, visual effects guru, Steven Johnson and his XFX studio, made a pitch to 20th Century Fox to be the special effects team for a Fantastic Four film. This was before the Tim Story film was made, and at that time Nicolas Cage was penciled in to play the role of the main villain, Doctor Victor Von Doom. Steve has now released has put these images up for sale on EBay. You can see Constantine Sekeris' designs for Dr. Doom and The Thing below, or click here to see even more concept art and a bizarre mechanical arm conceived for the ruthless ruler of Latveria.

If you're a fan of Constantine's brilliant artwork I would suggest picking up a copy of his book, MetamorFX: Art of Constantine Sekeris.

Fantastic Four (2005) was directed by Tim Story, from a screenplay written by Michael France and Mark Frost. The cast included: Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch, Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm / The Thing, Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom, Kerry Washington as Alicia Masters, Laurie Holden as Debbie McIlvane, and Stan "The Man" Lee as Willie Lumpkin. The film earned $330 million at the worldwide box office, against a budget of $100 million.

The last Thing picture is not THAT bad. He looks a little more frightening, though he still wear boxers instead of shorts...

Looks like we avoided Nicholas Cage in a superhero movie once more ! Out of GR, Superman, Batman and FF, we only had to endure him in one role (but 2 movies...)I couldn't bring myself to watch Spirit of Vengeance after I witnessed the horror from the first one.

it's worked for decades because comics are cheap to produce and only need to sell 50,000 copies... and it's easy to find 50,000 dorks like us, who are familiar with the characters and don't want them to change.

tentpole movies need to sell a hundred MILLION tickets, man. there are nowhere NEAR enough comic dweebs out there to break even. so they try to attract new audiences by shaking things up.

after all, if everybody LOVED the source material as much as WE do, they'd sell a hundred million copies of FF every month. and, um... they don't.

I like the design for Doctor Doom... only if it wasn't for Doctor Doom. It looks pretty cool.

As for The Thing... I dig that one as well. I think it would've just been cool to see that as part of his transformation instead of through the entire movie (which I hope was the direction they were going with that. If not, then: WTF?!?! It looks like a cross between Golem (Pokemon) and Brundle-Fly.)
