Marvel Studios has yet to make an announcement regarding the cast of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, but at least a couple of the main roles are believed to have been filled.
Last we heard, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) was a "lock" for Sue Storm, while Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn is said to be close to signing on to play her brother, Johnny. There are conflicting reports about the actors in contention for Reed Richards (Adam Driver may still be a frontrunner), but we do have some new info on a (potential) cast pick for The Thing.
Previous reports have indicated that Marvel was looking for a "fat white guy" to play Ben Grimm, but on this week's episode of the Hot Mic podcast, co-host Jeff Sneider mentions that his source may have been basing this off older concept art, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach might be set to play the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing after all.
Sneider seems fairly certain that The Bear star has joined the cast, but previously speculated that he might be playing either the Silver Surfer, or another herald of Galactus. Doctor Doom was another possibility.
All of this should be classed as rumor until we get some official word, of course, but if accurate, it is somewhat surprising that Marvel Studios seems to be putting an all white cast together for this project.
Matt Shakman will direct from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
