FANTASTIC FOUR: Is HAMILTON Star Daveed Diggs Being Eyed To Play Ben Grimm/The Thing?

Another day, another Fantastic Four casting rumour! This time, it sounds a lot like Hamilton and The Little Mermaid star Daveed Diggs is a potential contender to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thing.

Recent weeks have seen us inundated with Fantastic Four casting rumours. If the latest wave of claims is to be believed, Adam Driver is playing Mister Fantastic, Margot Robbie is considering taking on the role of Invisible Woman, and Paul Mescal is all but a lock for the Human Torch.

Aside from a baffling claim about Mila Kunis playing The Thing, very little has been revealed about plans for Ben Grimm in the MCU.

Well, that might have changed thanks to a rumour shared by Jeff Sneider on the latest edition of The Hot Mic podcast. Explaining that many of the names we've seen do the rounds in recent weeks have simply been plucked from casting grids, he believes there's no way Fantastic Four will feature an all-white cast.

Sharing his belief that at least one member of Marvel's First Family will be a person of color, Sneider suggests Hamilton star Daveed Diggs is a possible contender to play The Thing.

The actor is half-Jewish and a major talent who has been largely wasted in TNT's Snowpiercer. The actor will lend his voice to Sebastian in Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid and would definitely be a good fit to play the MCU's Ben. This rumour doesn't sound anywhere close to being confirmed, though, so it's best not to get too excited for now.

Ben Grimm, better known as The Thing, is perhaps the most tragic member of the Fantastic Four. An ace test pilot until exposure to intense cosmic radiation mutated him into a rock-skinned monster with immense superhuman strength, his exterior is much harder than stone which gives him a rather gruff disposition. However, deep down, he has a heart of gold.

Similar to 2015's Fantastic Four reboot helmed by Josh Trank, we expect the MCU's take on this character to be brought to life through motion capture and VFX.

Fantastic Four is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Honestly I think Regé-Jean Page would make a good Reed Richards.

Can't wait for people to complain that the only minority actor is playing the guy who's perpetually an orange rock man.

Honestly I don't mind this change since it's just motion capture and voice work anyway. However, a potential problem this movie could have is having him change back to human form to show off more that they have a POC in the role, or to avoid the criticism that the only minority on the team becomes physically altered to the point you can't see his skin tone. That or making a bigger deal of his race before changing than his actual physical change into the thing.

Not saying it will happen, just that it could happen.

@Origame - It will happen, so he will be in human form more than half the time, which isn't the Thing. Not too different from seeing Tom Holland without a mask half the time he is in a Spidey outfit.

@GeneralZod - yeah, I figured the possibility. Even the Tim story fantastic four knew they couldn't just make him human again without that being a big deal, Short lived, and just there to add tension to the climax.
