For months, we've encountered rumour after rumour about who will play Marvel's First Family in Fantastic Four

Some of those have been reliable enough that we've shared them with you, while many others are clearly wild guesses or blatant nonsense. Figuring out which is which isn't always easy, especially as Marvel Studios has likely met with a long list of actors, but the team has seemingly started taking shape in recent weeks.

The same names have repeatedly started coming up, and while the trades still haven't weighed in, it feels a lot like the plan is for Marvel Studios to make an official announcement during July's San Diego Comic-Con.

According to one reliable insider (and a number of others who have since chimed in to claim they've heard the same thing), the main Fantastic Four cast has been set.

If this is indeed correct, Adam Driver will play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Margot Robbie has been tapped to star as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Paul Mescal is going to "Flame On!" as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Daveed Diggs will transform into the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Driver is, of course, best known for playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, while Robbie has spent years as the DCEU's Harley Quinn. Mescal isn't a huge star, but looks set to put himself on the map in Sir Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel. As for Diggs, his breakout role came in Hamilton and he's since starred in Snowpiercer and The Little Mermaid

If this is indeed the MCU's Fantastic Four, we can't find fault with the team Marvel Studios has assembled. Driver and Robbie signing up for what's sure to be a long-term commitment is definitely a surprise, but they must have faith in the vision for these characters.

What do you think about this possible Fantastic Four cast? The movie will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Disney is playing a dangerous game by race swapping The Thing. The very people that they’d try to virtue signal too are going to hate it because it follows the Hollywood trend of casting a black actor and turning him/her into some sort of animal, essentially hiding the fact they’re black. I personally think it’s a goofy complaint but doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

@Lilvic92 - That's the problem with this kind of thing. It is never enough.

@Lilvic92 - Or maybe Diggs is just a really good choice for the part and "virtue signaling" he's nothing to do with it.

@Lilvic92 - No. No they are not. Disney is very safe on this one believe me. Ben Grimm is iconic to us geeks and nerds but he is NOT an iconic figure to the general Marvel movie-going audience. We comic-book fanatics are in the minority when it comes to the movie versions of these characters. Would there be blow-back for a non-White Steve Rogers or Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent? Yes. But not Ben Grimm. I love The Thing. But the casual Marvel movie fan will recognize him by his orange rocks first and foremost. My advice is to sit-back and enjoy the ride! 🤓

@Lilvic92 - It’s not such as bad idea as raceswapping one of the other three. Ben will probably be Thing most of the time anyway, and black actors usually have much better voices for this kind of stuff.

@Lilvic92 - clearly trying to go with the metaphorical black people are viewed as others (by sociopaths) w the Thing if this is true. Very shortsighted if so.
