BOX OFFICE: JACK THE GIANT SLAYER Grosses $400K In Midnight Showings

With Bryan Singer's (X-Men) 3D fantasy epic expected to gross a soft $30M domestically this weekend, Jack The Giant Slayer has officially taken in $400,000 from midnight showings.

It was previously reported that Warner Bros.' Jack The Giant Slayer 3D would only gross $30 million in its box office debut this weekend, a low number for a film that the studio spent nearly $300M on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Bryan Singer-directed fantasy epic (which stars Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci) has grossed $400,000 from Thursday night/midnight showings. This is behind the $500,000 number that Disney's John Carter grossed last March, and that film only debuted with $30M. Jack needs to perform very well overseas, considering that a soft domestic run is very likely. Insiders at WB say that the midnight numbers are good, since kids weren't available to see it. The film was originally slated for a June 2012 release before being delayed "to make it more kid-friendly". Do you plan on checking out Jack The Giant Slayer this weekend?

this is the state of hollywood today
if you cant remake it or write a prequel or sequel, just yank some old story from our childhood and mangle it into a cgi heavy popcorn seller.

the moment i hear about a movie based on the three billy goats gruff im going to shit in an envelope and
mail it to the film maker.

Well, they obviously made this movie because of how well Alice performed in a box-office, as they made the ton of others: Red Riding Hood (shit), Mirror, Mirror (not that bad), Snow White and the Huntsman (shit), Hansel and Gretel (almost good), Oz (saw it in Moscow - meh), Maleficent.

Not minding the quality of those movies, what I don't really understand - not even one of them achieved the needed success - why keep making them?

I can't imagine why people would rush to see this "event" film at midnight, didn't think the fanbase for Jack the Giant Killer was so strong...

No wonder I've been hearing reviews that say it's tone is confused; he's had to make it kid-friendly. Everything has to be kid-friendly, these days. Even the gorram Evil Dead remake.

@MarvelPsycho79
Unlike Snow White And The Huntsman, Mirror, Mirror had certain style and originality in it, check some other movies by Tarsem Singh, this guy has absolutely amazing vision on making motion pictures. Man just needs a decent script to show his greatness.

Bryan Singer should have just stayed with Superman.

DOFP for sure will be awesome.
X-1 and X-2 are great, amazing cast, good script, Singer has been in this franchise since the very beginning, [frick]ing Sentinels, man. It will be jaw-dropping.

Why any studio would invest so much in a movie that is for one age group is beyond me. Kids over 13 probably wont want to see it and children under 7 probably cant sit through it.

Kinda figured this would be bad by just kooking at the screen writers it had....oh well. Doesn't really mean anything.

Singer is really good with Xmen. I bet DOFP will be the biggest movie of 2014.

Every movie that Singer makes is worse than the one before.

Superman Returns (245 million $)
Valkyrie (93 million $)
Jack the giant slayer (50 million $)

X-Men Days of Future Past (bet for 100$)

Please Mr Singer, don´t do that movie!

No original X-Men team. Continuity mistakes. Personalities of all characters changed. Different actors for the same role. Stupid screenplay. The same special effects than Jack the giant slayer.

We don´t want another movie like that!!

F*** ALL THE HATERS! You're on a site called COMICBOOKMovie.com, and y'all are downing this film? Very interesting...

On another note, the pet pics are funny :)
