Could Robert Downey, Jr. Be Playing Opposite Himself in Ben Stiller's Pinocchio?

Early reports pointed to Robert Downey, Jr. playing Gepetto in Ben Stiller's Pinocchio project but it appears Downey, Jr. may be playing opposite himself as the wooden puppet with aspirations of becoming a real boy.

Recent reports suggest that Robert Downey, Jr.(Iron Man, Avengers) may be trading iron for a new wood varnish with talks of him playing opposite himself in the long gestating Pinocchio project developing at Warner Bros. Early reports pointed to Downey, Jr. playing the renowned fairy tale character's creator, Geppetto, however there is now speculation he will be providing his acting talent for Pinocchio as well. It is unclear at this time whether Downey, Jr. will simply be providing the voice for the character, or motion capture as well.

Readers may recall Tim Burton was originally attached to direct Pinocchio, but sources now say that Robert Downey, Jr. may be reteaming with Tropic Thunder director Ben Stiller for their novel take on the children's storybook character.

"While I like RDJ, he always plays the same type of character."

This is totally true, aside from the times it's not. I don't think his character in Tropic Thunder was really comparable to Tony Stark, Charlie Chaplin, or Sherlock Holmes. His character in In Dreams was very different, as well as US Marshals, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and Soapdish. Which was probably the first time he REALLY stood out to me actually.

Honestly, I'd like to see him play Pinocchio than Geppetto.
