Variety report that Guy Ritchie has cast Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon, father of the future King Arthur, in his big-screen Knights Of The Round Table adaptation for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow. Apparently they were also looking at Liam Neeson for the role, who actually played one of Arthur's Knights (Gawain) in John Boorman's Excalibur back in the '80s. Bana joins Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey playing Guinevere, and Jude Law still in talks for the villainous uncle role. Idris Elba was at one time up for the "Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur", but now Djimon Hounsou is the man they want for that character. The film is being envisioned as the first of a six-part saga, with Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell producing, and Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) on script duty. Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur is set for a July 22, 2016 release.
