Harry Potter Spin-Off FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM Gets A Release Date

Warner Bros. may have finished adapting the seven Harry Potter novels, but they're nowhere near ready to let that extremely profitable franchise go! While it won't star the titular character, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set in the same universe and takes place a number of years before the events seen in the previous eight movies. Based loosely on a book J.K. Rowling wrote for charity, it will be an original story and marks her screenwriting debut. When will you be able to see it? Well, it looks set to be Christmas 2016's big release! Excited?

This is why I am interested:

Set initially in New York about seven decades before the start of the Harry Potter story, the films will follow “magizoologist” Newt Scamander as an extension of the wizarding world — rather than being prequels or sequels.

By then, the MCU will have already surpassed Harry Potter as the highest-grossing franchise of all time. So, yeah, bring it on.

I love the Harry Potter films don't get me wrong but, what is the point of this? It doesn't seem interesting at all. If they want to make a prequel, make it about the origins of Slytherin, Gryfindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.

2016 should set a boxoffice record for most money earned. Isn't Star Wars 7 coming out that year? I am quite sure this HP movie will do decent numbers. The book was BORING as it was an informational book. However seeing how the wizard learned all the BORING stuff should be a delight.

I would normally agree that this is redundant, but JK is writing it herself. So I'll wait and see.

@Josh

That's a Thanksgiving release (in the states of course) not a Christmas one being that it comes out in November not December.

Since the story is set in New York will Rowling drop her demand that only British and Irish actors fill the roles in Potter films?
